Colby College is seeking a nurse manager to work in collaboration with Maine-Dartmouth Family Residency Program to provide comprehensive care to the students at Colby. This position is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day nursing activity at the health center, direct supervision of the nursing staff, as well as nursing care to students. The nurse manager will develop and implement clinical goals, standards, and objectives that directly support the strategic plan and vision of the College. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop and implement clinical goals, standards, and objectives that directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization
- Direct and evaluate departmental clinical operations including performance management, staff satisfaction and conflict management
- Perform and oversee scheduling, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements
- Prioritize student needs and triage clinical situations appropriately
- Perform assessments, identify clinical needs, implement a treatment plan based on clinical protocols, and reevaluate care provided
- Collect patient history and educate patients on treatment plans
- Perform blood collections and other biological specimen collections on patients using approved equipment
- Communicate with students regarding follow-up care, immunization compliance, and clinical case management as needed
- Train nursing staff and assure all are clinically competent and proficient
- Identify medically complex conditions with the intent to coordinate care between necessary departments prior to student arrival
- Monitor and coordinate response to events reported to the health center’s internal occurrence reporting system
- Develop, in collaboration with medical staff, nursing protocols, policies, and procedures and maintain them annually to current best practice standards
- Ensure appropriate nursing coverage during health center hours of operation
- Plan for and monitor regulatory compliance; maintain accreditation standards as they apply to nursing and clinical chapters
- Determine and justify needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases; monitor usage, and oversee proper working order and/or stock supplies
- Oversee pharmaceutical services in accordance with regulatory standards
- Coordinate bi-annual pharmacy inspections of Colby’s medication program; ensure medication and vaccine supplies are ordered and maintained per manufacturers guidelines
- Prepare, monitor, and evaluate the quality of patient care delivered and coordinate patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments; manage complaints and conflicts through to resolution
- Review medical health information; monitor and oversee student immunization and vaccination compliance
- Collaborate with the Office of Off Campus Studies to provide information about health services for students studying abroad
- Communicate with practitioners, counselors, co-workers on and off site, on-call staff members as appropriate to ensure optimal patient care and medical outcomes
- Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation using the Electronic Medical Records (EMS) system
- Attend staff and continuing education meetings at the health center, as well as mandatory meetings as nurse manager; serve on health center committees as appointed
- Use non clinical time to facilitate activities that enhance the health and wellness of Colby students as well as improve the visibility and credibility of the Health Services on campus and in the greater community, including but not limited to health education programs, accreditation activities, campus committees, residence hall/campus presentations and/or other opportunities as agreed upon in collaboration with the director of health services; activities may fall outside normal office hours
- Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
- Maine state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required; Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider preferred
- 3-5 years of recent prior experience in general nursing care with preference for outpatient or emergency care
- Highly developed computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office Suite, email and web applications, as well as ability to fully function within an electronic medical record system
- Must be able to work independently and exercise judgment with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents, and other Colby staff in a professional and courteous manner

KEY RELATIONSHIPS :
Reporting to the Medical Director, this position works closely with nursing staff and interacts with students, faculty, staff, and outside constituencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
General health and medical services environment. Position involves frequent movement; some lifting (up to 50 pounds) required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is necessary. Routine occupational exposure to blood or body fluids. Physical ability to safely wear a respirator; verification of Hepatitis B, MMR, and varicella immunity status due to potential exposure to communicable diseases.
