The ELL Teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers, guidance staff, and specialist teachers to assist non-English speaking or limited English speaking students in developing oral and written communication skills.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess the functional literacy levels of all new ELL or non-English speaking students, and develop appropriate instructional programs
- Communicate with classroom teachers, guidance staff, and/or specialist teachers regarding current ELL student needs and instructional plans
- Work with students individually or in small groups, as appropriate
- Conduct activities that promote effective listening, speaking, reading, or writing skills
- Assist students in learning content, according to their language readiness and developmental levels
- Provide activities and experiences to help students and their families adapt to our American culture
- Challenge students to master both basic and higher order thinking skills
- Prepare quarterly progress reports on all ELL students; review these with students, parents, classroom teachers, and supervisor
- Coordinate total district program to serve ELL student needs; access the services of the Rural Educational Center and higher educational institutions to bolster program resources
- Perform other tasks as assigned by building principals and/or your direct supervisor
