What are the responsibilities and job description for the NeuroAI Scholars position at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory?
CSHL is seeking outstanding candidates to join an innovative new program at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence (AI), contributing to jumpstart the new “NeuroAI” field which applies insights from neuroscience to catalyze the development of next-generation artificial neural network systems. The primary goal of NeuroAI is to develop new AI algorithms inspired by neuroscience, rather than to apply AI techniques to better understand neuroscience.
Please note that this program is aimed at those whose interests are to apply neuroscience to AI. Candidates whose primary interest is in applying AI to neuroscience or other fields of biology are invited to apply an alternative program here: http://compgen.cshl.edu/scqb_postdocs/.
CSHL’s NeuroAI Scholars Program will train AI experts in modern neuroscience by embedding them in CSHL’s neuroscience labs. The ideal candidate will have outstanding training in modern AI techniques; no training in neuroscience is required.
The NeuroAI Scholars position is an independent research position designed for exceptional AI researchers. Ideally, applicants will have a PhD in AI/machine learning, although in exceptional cases candidates who have not completed an advanced graduate degree will be considered. Post-graduate experience in academia or industry is a plus. Under mentorship from CSHL’s Neuroscience faculty, NeuroAI Scholars are expected to establish their own research programs while leveraging collaborations with AI communities. NeuroAI Scholars are compensated well above traditional postdoc levels. Appointments are generally awarded for a period of two years, with the possibility of recruitment to tenure-track faculty.
The NeuroAI program will build on CSHL’s programs in neuroscience and AI, and its existing strengths in neural circuits, rodent cognition, perception, social behavior, neural development, neurogenetics, theoretical and computational neuroscience, synaptic function, and brain disorders. Applications from women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged. CSHL is dedicated to building and maintaining a diverse work environment.
