Job Summary: The Splitter Operator is responsible for operating the hydraulic splitter to cut granite products per the slab layout.

Duties:

• Moves unfinished and finished granite products with overhead crane and lifting devices
• Sets up the slab in the splitter according to the layout specifications to perform the length and width splits required
• Adjusts pressure of the hydraulic splitter during operation based upon the thickness and type of granite being cut.
• Operates automatic conveyors to move and turn granite slabs accordingly for the cutting process.
• Checks work for errors before and after splitting by comparing work to production ticket specifications
• Matches production tickets with cut pieces of granite to ensure they continue correctly to the appropriate production area
• Separates pieces from the slab to send to the appropriate area for additional production work
• Inspects for general and job-specific acceptance of stone quality and appearance criteria
• Operates the 1-foot splitter as necessary to cut and remove granite scraps from the production line
• Uses a sledgehammer to break apart granite scraps as needed
• Changes splitter teeth as needed
• Troubleshoots minor equipment issues
• Performs necessary 5S and Total Productive Maintenance duties
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills & Knowledge:

• Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production
• Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on time management, improving efficiencies, and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency
• Mechanically inclined
• General math skills
• Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings
• Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric
• Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent

Status: This is a full-time, hourly position Monday – Thursday: 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM; overtime as needed.

Work Location: One location
