Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Description: The Registered Nurse is a full-time, non-exempt position that serves as a resource to the Collaborative Governance (CG) Health Care Director regarding the health and well-being of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood. The RN is a member of the Holistic Life Team and reports to the CG Health Care Director to promote a seamless integration of services, providing regular updates on significant health care issues of the Sisters. Responsibilities include health counseling, nursing services and advocacy to ensure that all CPPS Sisters receive the necessary care and services to attain or maintain their highest practical level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

All Sisters

1. Maintain records of medical history for all CPPS Sisters and review annually.

2. Use standardized tools to monitor the physical and mental well-being of all CPPS Sisters and to assist the Sisters in achieving health goals.

3. Use standardized assessment tools and regular monitoring to assure Sisters are living in the appropriate level of care. Assist in transitioning Sisters to appropriate care setting as needed.

4. Assist and advise individual Sisters who request assistance or who have been identified as needing assistance with health care and related services.

5. Accompany Sisters to medical appointments when health advocacy is needed, especially at times of health transitions, surgery or serious medical conditions.

6. Serve as a resource for Sisters and their chosen support person(s), especially during times of health transitions, surgery or serious medical conditions.

7. Assist Sisters in communicating with healthcare providers (physicians, discharge planners, home health agencies, hospice and health care facilities, etc.) and in understanding the physician/health professionals’ communications and instructions.

8. Serve as a health care advocate for Sisters unable to make informed medical decisions. Communicate, as needed, with the designated Durable Power of Attorney for healthcare to ensure the Sister’s healthcare directives are followed.

9. On-going well-being check-in with the Sisters with a critical eye for assessing for any change in status.

10. Regularly update the Collaborative Governance Health Care Director and the Holistic Life Team concerning a Sister’s health situation.

11. Compassionately listen when Sisters need to talk, while setting appropriate limits (i.e. knows when/how to limit conversation to get other work done) and identify instances when to direct Sisters to the appropriate staff (health care, spiritual care/community life, ED).

12. Able to apply a holistic approach to each Sister integrating compassionate presence. Maintain relationships, coordinate responsibilities, and clear communication with the Holistic Life Team, Collaborative Governance Health Care Director, other healthcare staff, staff and the Sisters.

13. Utilize critical thinking, problem solving, and assessment skills to meet the ongoing needs of the Sisters.

14. All other duties as assigned.

Sisters living at Villa Theresa Apartments

15. Provide an array of nursing care post-hospitalization, same day surgery, or physician office treatment (i.e. wound care, dressing changes, medication set-up, blood pressure monitoring, etc.)

16. Coordinate primary care physicians and their services.

17. Ensure that medical records are sent to the appointment and have insurance information available.

18. Accompany the Sister resident to the emergency room and act in the role of companion and advocate. This responsibility is rotated with on-call duty.

19. Advocate for hospitalized Sister residents; consult with doctor about follow-up protocols as needed.

20. Coordinate post-hospitalization care at the Abbey or other licensed facility if skilled nursing is necessary.

Sisters living at Abbey Senior Health

21. Serve as CPPS liaison, in coordination with the Collaborative Governance Health Care Director, with licensed facility for any healthcare needs or other concerns regarding CPPS Sister residents.

22. Maintain positive, professional working relationships with physicians, nurses, social services, therapy, and pastoral staff at care facilities with Sisters reside.

23. Accompany Sister residents to off campus physician appointments when necessary for medical expertise; communicate the results of the visit to the Collaborative Governance Health Care Director, the Holistic Life Team, and the Director of Nursing.

24. Attend care plan meetings and bedside rounds as the medical advocate for Sister residents and for those temporarily in a care facility to assist in a smooth transition back to their mission or apartment.

25. Maintain communication with the Sister residents’ Durable Power of Attorney for healthcare agents and their families.

Specifications:

Education: Successful completion of an accredited professional nursing program.

License/Registration/Certification: An active RN license in the State of Missouri and basic life support (BLS) certification. Valid driver’s license with good driving record. Continuing Education is strongly encouraged.

Experience: Professional nursing practice experience of at least five years with preference for experience in geriatrics, mental health, or community health. Necessitates thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques necessary to effectively assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. Knowledge of the spiritual aspects of wellness, understanding of the aging process, issues of diminishment and death are essential for this position. Prior experience working with elders or members of a religious congregation is a plus.

Vaccinations: Must agree to be vaccinated per the requirements of Abbey senior Health. This may include annual flu and TB, Covid, and others as necessary.

10. Possession of strong computer skills, including mobile technology, with working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Microsoft Outlook.

11. Ability to operate or learn applicable office equipment.

Working Conditions:

· Considerable walking throughout Villa Theresa Apartments and Abbey Senior Health.

· Ability to move/lift objects while accompanying the Sisters.

· The position requires the individual to be inside/outside. Exposure to outside elements while driving a vehicle could include excessive cold or heat.

· The offices are tobacco-free.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
