POSITION DETAILS
The College of Staten Island (CSI), a comprehensive senior college of The City University of New York, seeks an experienced, creative, and collaborative leader to assume the position of Dean of Science & Technology.
The Dean of Science and Technology reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost, and has responsibility for the supervision of faculty recruitment, tenure, and promotion in six academic departments (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering and Environmental Science, Physics and Astronomy, and Mathematics). Duties of the Dean include maintenance of the range, depth, and quality of the division's academic programs and budget allocation among departments. The Dean is also responsible for promoting academic excellence in the sciences and for assuring that students have access to intellectual and practical experiences that will enrich their lives and prepare them for their post-collegiate careers. Working with the faculty, the Dean develops the divisional long- range plan and implements short-range goals. The Dean of Science and Technology is a member of the Provost's Council. The Dean also responds to CUNY initiatives and collaborates with peers throughout CUNY. As the academic leader of the Division, the Dean should be a scholar of repute with a strong background in college teaching, research, fundraising and academic administration.

This is an existing position within the CUNY Executive Compensation Plan, subject to applicable University policies for job performance, salary, and benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
- An earned doctorate and a demonstrated record of distinction in scholarship, teaching and fundraising appropriate for appointment to a Full Professor position in one of the departments in the division.
- Five years’ of academic leadership or administrative experience at the chair level or above, to include Budget management experience. Experience in supporting and growing faculty research in areas related to the Division. Knowledge and experience with accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement processes.
- The ability to work effectively with both internal and external constituencies to ensure continued vitality and enhancement of academic programs, launching of new ones and/or re- alignment of existing programs to better serve the academic community.
- Five years’ experience supervising and mentoring chairs, faculty and staff; including experience in the recruitment, retention, tenure, and promotion process.
- Commitment to higher education in a multi-cultural setting with demonstrated successes in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Commitment to and experience with promoting equitable student success in disciplines represented by the Division.
- Five years’ experience in academic administration at a public institution and an understanding of the issues that confront public colleges and universities. Commitment to and experience with shared governance practices.
- Five years’ experience with successful institution-level grant writing
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and writing skills
