Job Summary

We are hiring for a seasoned and skilled Program Manager in Phoenix, AZ. This position is for a seasoned expert in the discipline of Program Management with aerospace experience; who works independently; supports small/medium projects, programs, and IPT teams, and may own or support the customer relationship. Program Managers (PM’s) champion senior leaderships strategic vision and operational goals, while leading the IPT to develop programs priorities and work through tactical challenges.

PM’s accomplish work through influence, inspiration, and empowerment across various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within the Collins Management System (CMS). PM’s may serve as IPT leads on small to medium projects/programs or may support senior program managers on medium to large projects/programs. IPT leads will organize various local and international team members to meet business objectives over the full lifecycle of a product or program.

The discipline of Program Management has a broad definitions and diverse applications across the aerospace industry, which may specialize at any point within the product lifecycle. While at times there is a need to focus on a specific phase of the product lifecycle, the philosophy of the lighting organization is to have versatile PM’s who support the full lifecycle of aerospace products and programs. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate to demonstrate, through experience and skills, an ability to lead a diverse team through challenging business situations across the product and program lifecycle.

The PM’s roles at Collins Lighting are challenging roles, as the IPT looks to them for inspiration, guidance, and support through challenging and complex issues, but these challenges come with a significant opportunity for visibility and recognition of performance with leadership. The ideal candidate will be an individual that wants a challenge and desires personal and professional growth, gaining invaluable experience and skills for the next professional opportunity of senior program manager.

The pressing business need for program managers to own or support the customer interface and support a challenging work transfer, which is made further interesting through acute global supply shortages. As the work transfer executes, global supply challenges diminish, and new processes mature; PM’s will become more involved in supporting business development opportunities, assembling business cases, generating proposals, launching new product introduction or cost reduction projects, and will monitor and control project execution. However, the initial focus will be on customer account management, operational process maturity, and delivering quality products on time, every time.

Position is to be classified as “Remote” to ensure high quality candidates are not omitted in the interview process. However, employee’s residing in the Phoenix-metro area are preferred, so they may work in a hybrid work classification. Hybrid roles may require as many as five (5) days or as

little as one (1) day on site per week, based on fluid business needs and agreements with the employee’s manager. However, working onsite 2-3 days a week is most typical.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supports finalization of work transfer to Phoenix site in partnership with global teams, establishing and sustaining the new product portfolio and associated processes.
  • Leads or supports IPT in sustaining program activities and challenges associated with the new portfolio, such as delivery assurance, obsolescence management, right-sizing inventory, contracts, aftermarket spares and AOG management, and product redesign projects.
  • Works autonomously with limited oversight, leading small/medium projects and programs by developing program plans, schedules, and resource requirements for programs.
  • Analyzes data and monitors programs to ensure adherence to contract requirements, total manufacturing cost, cost of poor quality, gross margin and on time delivery.
  • Supports program management content for business development activities within his/her statement of work and supports the development of presentations for leadership approval.
  • Develops, maintains, and presents corrective actions and recovery schedules relating to business aspects of the project/program to internal executive leadership and customers.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and quality of both products and processes. Proactively identifies and addresses risks and, and develops solutions to problems which require critical thinking, creativity, and innovation to ensure the successful execution of projects/programs across the full program lifecycle.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on program opportunities to increase company revenues and profitability while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Supports program work with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with the project/program objectives, supporting staffing analyses, and pursuing program health.
  • Participates in the negotiation of contracts and contractual changes, including coordinating preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements, operational budgets, specifications, and financial conditions of contracts to ensure legal compliance and to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Interfaces with vendors, when necessary, to support the program.
  • Supports all program phases from inception, to development, to production, to obsolescence and retiring fleets from service.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and 8 years of Program Management with Development and Operations experience in Aerospace OR
  • Advanced degree from an accredited university and 5 years of Program Management with Development and Operations experience in Aerospace OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical four-year degree with an MBA or other advanced business degree.
  • Program Management Institute (PMI) certification (PMP, CAPM, etc.)
  • Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt)
