Job Summary:
The Trauma Informed Counselor is a full-time, salaried position and an integral member of the Collins Center team. Reporting to the Associate Director, this position is responsible for providing trauma informed direct short/long-term counseling and crisis response services to victims – survivors of sexual harm, and their families.
Responsibilities:
➢ Provide counseling to child, adolescent, and adult clients and their non-offending family members with a continuity of care from the first contact until case closure and beyond
➢ Co-facilitate support groups
➢ Attend and participate in staff, crisis, and case management meetings with therapists, CAC staff, and Crisis Response staff
➢ Assist in development of new clinical programs and initiatives
➢ Provide crisis services and assessments to primary and secondary victims – survivors
➢ Provide on-call services to support 24-hour hotline as needed
➢ Maintain client files, notes, and documentation as required clinically, and for grant reports
➢ Act as a liaison, as appropriate, between clients and allied agencies including hospitals, law enforcement, social services, victim/witness programs and the Commonwealth Attorney’s office
➢ Participate on local counseling, and mental health community networks
➢ Facilitate appropriate referrals for counseling, and adjunct services
➢ Provide support on special projects, as needed
Qualifications and Skills:
➢Master’s degree in counseling or clinical social work, licensed in the State of Virginia or licensed eligible
➢ Fully bilingual in English/Spanish with excellent writing and communication skills in both
➢ Thorough understanding of the impact of sexual assault, victimization, trauma and trauma informed care
➢ Knowledge and experience in the therapy approaches most often used with children, including TF-CBT, Play/Sand Tray/Art Therapy, and EMDR
➢ Ability to assess clinical needs within a diverse victim – survivor population and provide and ensure the provision of culturally sensitive and appropriate services
➢ Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to coordinate between diverse groups and individuals including partner agencies, allied professionals, stakeholders, and primary and secondary victims
