What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Manager position at Collins Electric?

The Service Manager is accountable for the supervision of the Service Department personnel and projects including installations, performance, profitability, and customer/client satisfaction. Performs work within an established time frame and ensures that work is done in conformance with quality work standards, projected man-hours, maximum profitability within established Company guidelines, and regulatory compliance requirements.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


Responsible for calculating the cost of service projects by reviewing and evaluating available documents and through on-site investigation, to develop accurate, competitive, and profitable bid proposals.


  • Ensures estimates are accurate and account for all requirements.
  • Calculates the cost of electrical service projects based on reviewing and evaluating available documents.
  • Reviews and evaluates documents to determine scope of work and profitability for the Company.
  • Identifies strategies to create bid advantages.
  • Takes ownership of the estimating/bidding process on service projects.
  • Follows-up on project estimates and provide feedback to management concerning market pricing levels.
  • Supervises construction activities associated with projects.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have direct impact in achieving project goals and established objectives.
  • Project goals are achieved within stipulated budget and established schedule.
  • Contacts clients with delinquent accounts and thrives to secure payment.


Engage business development to identify market strategy and prepare estimating strategy.


  • Identifies and develops relationships with current and potential clients/customer to generate new business opportunities
  • Understands the needs of the clients/customers to ensure our proposal adequately addresses their needs.


Assists in setting sales/profit margin goals and objectives for Service Department while developing strategies to meet or exceed these goals.


  • Creates strategic sales growth plans and sales processes.
  • Analyzes market activity for ideal project pursuits.
  • Attends trade shows and other associations’ meetings to stay abreast of market conditions, competition, and establish relationships with existing clients and prospects.
  • Coordinates and manages the sales/ bid proposal process with the senior management team.
  • Develops and manages the execution of sales plans.


Upon award of project, develop project specifics and client driven goals, schedules, budgets and detailed expectations.


  • Ensures schedules are created and project work plans are executed and revised as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains project goals and success criteria that meet the client’s needs.
  • Develops a detailed project budget based on historical and market data with a clearly defined set of budget expectations.
  • Develops and maintains master service schedule.


Build rapport with client representatives assuring scope of project and outside business forces affecting the project is fully understood and specific deliverables are fully understood with performance standards and other relevant criteria.


  • Coordinates any necessary due diligence efforts on behalf of the client, maintains and delivers all appropriate information to client.
  • Acts as the primary senior level contact with the client throughout the duration of the project.
  • Makes commitments to the client as appropriate to the successful completion of the project in conformity with company policy.


Oversees and actively tracks each aspect of the project’s performance through project close.


  • Oversees service team members work to ensure compliance with contract and client expectations.
  • Identifies and addresses areas of concerns regarding potential liabilities and risk (costs, our reputation, errors, oversights, etc.) to management team.
  • Monitors project costs against final approved budget. Initiates appropriate action, if necessary.
  • Ensures service team members adhere to service department schedules and service department milestones.

  • Effectively and efficiently communicates with team.
  • Continuously sets and manages project expectations with service team members.
  • Pro-actively identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the service team.
  • Facilitates regular team meetings to discuss issues, share knowledge, share achievements, and provide training and direction.
  • Adjust all aspects of the delivery of communications, i.e. language, context, tone of voice to suit the requirements/needs of the audience.
  • Responds to questions and requests for information from service team members in a timely fashion.
  • Actively seeks feedback and ensures all communications is two way.
  • Cleary expresses ideas and information. Keeps team and others informed of issues affecting them.
  • Holds team members accountable with clear objectives, Key Performance Indicators, policies and procedures.
  • Conducts performance evaluations with service team members and provides coaching/mentoring as required during the course of projects.
  • Non-performance is addressed and documented, and performance is recognized and rewarded.


Motivates Others and creates a culture where people want to do their best. Invites input for individuals and shares ownership and visibility. Makes each individual feel his/her work is important.


  • Creates an atmosphere of “can do” and positive thinking.
