SUMMARY: The K-3 Literacy specialist will lead building efforts to increase literacy achievement for all student populations and facilitate the transition to and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
CONTRACT: 200 days (181 Teacher contractual days plus 19 additional days)

K-3 Literacy Specialist
24-25 School Year

SUMMARY: The K-3 Literacy specialist will lead building efforts to increase literacy achievement for all student populations and facilitate the transition to and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

Qualifications
- Teacher Certification in elementary education
- Five (5) years elementary classroom experience
- Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or related field of study
- A deep level of understanding of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts
- In-depth knowledge of the Science of Reading
- Participation in comprehensive literacy training
- Evidence of success in working with adult learners
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
- Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills
- Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills
- Evidence of successful leadership in reading and writing content at a grade/building/district level
- Experience in conducting reading and writing staff development
- Experience in mentoring/coaching teachers preferred
- In-depth knowledge of a variety of reading and writing instructional strategies necessary to support the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts
- A strong commitment to team collaboration through Professional Learning Communities
- Assist teachers with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts
- Assist district with the development of and teachers with the implementation of a district Literacy Plan
- Demonstrate exemplary literacy instruction for K-3 teachers through research-based best practices
- Plan and conduct Literacy team meetings through the PLC structure
- Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student reading and writing weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate strategies and resources
- Assist with disaggregating and analyzing Benchmark district assessment data to help guide teacher's instructional decisions
- Assist/lead staff with recommendations regarding instructional materials
- Participate in various training sessions for leaders of literacy
- Assist teachers with technology integration in classroom literacy instruction
