Job Description
The Controller is responsible for maximizing the return on financial assets and ensuring appropriate financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems are in place and appropriate for the size and complexity of the organization. This position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that ensures company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, US GAAP, OCC, and investor requirements. The Controller will also oversee the accounting department.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee all financial operations and direct corporate financial planning and structure
- Coordinate, analyze and report the financial performance to Management and Board of Directors (financial performance, projections and other special projects as required)
- Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties
- Prepare annual business plan with five year proforma, annual capital plan with stress testing scenarios and related relief options
- Prepare audited financial statement and footnotes in conjunction with independent audit
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting are appropriate for the size and complexity of the organization
- Conduct in-depth, detailed financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, risks
- Develop and maintain financial models to support decision-making initiatives
- Accountable for quarterly asset classification reporting under CECL accounting standard
- In conjunction with outside consultants, responsible for quarterly asset liability interest rate risk modeling and quarterly liquidity stress testing scenarios and related relief options
- Provides status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data
- Monitor liquidity and investment strategies to minimize risk
- Responsible for accurate and timely regulatory reporting including quarterly call report review
- Oversees and arranges for external audits, audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms and review firms performance
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing robust internal controls
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports
- Advises management of actions and potential risks
- Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP, FDIC, OCC rules and regulations including Agency requirements
- Develops, manages annual budget
- Lead, mentor accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability
- Hire, train, develop accounting team while promoting a positive and inclusive work environment
- Keep up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance
Job Requirements
- 15 years of experience in public accounting/mortgage/banking
- 10 years’ experience in managing an accounting team
- CPA certification required
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls and financial reporting required
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting
- Master’s degree in business, financial or related field preferred
- Mortgage Servicing experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
- Strong forecasting abilities
- Strong analytical, technology, and organizational skills
- Ability to direct and motivate employees
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic fast paced working environment
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook
