ROLE SUMMARY

The Campaign Manager works within the Campaigns Department as part of the Campaigns Team to plan, execute, and optimize campaigns that drive awareness, engagement, and actions in accordance with Color Of Change's Theory of Change. The Campaign Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated campaign strategies and tactics, manage campaign execution across multiple disciplines, and analyze campaign performance to inform future initiatives and contribute to informed decision-making within the department and the organization. The Campaign Manager’s work products support Color Of Change’s mission to make the world a better place for Black people. Campaigners are required to meet in person occasionally in Washington D.C. or New York, NY offices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Campaign Strategy Development. Develop strategic campaign plans to execute an overarching approach that involves defining the goals, target, messaging, strategies, and tactics that will be utilized to effectively reach and engage the desired audience. The Campaign Manager will develop campaign strategies with a strong connection to Color Of Change’s Theory of Change and Strategic Initiatives. Experience executing campaign strategies against government, corporate, and/or other influential public targets is preferable.

  • Campaign Planning and Execution. Lead the execution of campaigns while overseeing every aspect from initial launch to post-campaign analysis, including creating campaign assets (emails, petition pages, social media content, creative tactics,  fundraising pages, and mailings).

  • Strategic Foresight and ability to craft actionable recommendations that ensure campaign initiatives are continuously positioned for a high level of impact and alignment with department and organizational goals.

  • Be Responsive. We are a racial justice organization that consistently remains responsive to the news cycle and what's happening in the world. As such, this is not a standard 9-5 job, and as part of your role, you may be called on to work early mornings, evenings, late nights, and weekends when moments break (e.g., the Capitol Insurrection or the Charlottesville Riot).

  • Generate campaign ideas. Be an idea fountain, constantly tossing out campaign ideas. Some will be decent, some downright horrible, and some will change the game.

  • The ability to pivot and take on new and different assignments as needed to win successful campaigns.

  • Be able to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing your job duties, and be comfortable in working under general supervision.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the development and training of campaign concepts and skills for internal team members and external partners.

  • Utilize collaborative relationships internally and externally, leveraging teamwork and communication skills to align diverse stakeholders and drive collective progress toward campaign objectives.

  • Utilize online organizing tools to stage emails, landing pages, donation pages, and social media content in support of your own campaigns and other initiatives across the Campaigns Department.

  • Coordinate and track the overall campaign work. Utilize mechanisms for tracking campaigns as part of larger department and organizational projects.

  • Support the department and the organization in strategic recommendations to inform convenings, panels, coalitions, and other special projects in order to build upon the department’s strategy.

  • Represent Color Of Change in working groups, coalitions, and cross-organizational projects during campaign periods.

  • Travel occasionally for staff gatherings, conferences, and campaign-related actions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two plus years of experience in digital campaigns and/or communications work.

  • Exceptional writing skills. The ability to communicate information clearly is fundamental to this role. You will be asked to draft and edit campaign documents and communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop campaign assets.

  • Exceptional communication skills. The ability to clearly communicate with the staff you are working with within the organization as well as external partners, consultants, and media are paramount; especially in fast-faced moments, you’ll need to be on message, clear, and ask for clarity in return.

  • A deep racial justice analysis and a strong ability to effectively use a Black/racial justice frame of reference to write a strong and persuasive campaign and/or other engagement materials.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit. This ambitious drive is necessary for owning your campaigns and should also be combined with the ability to be creative and work quickly.

  • Top-notch organization skills. If the books on your bookshelf are in alphabetical order, your notes utilize colors with specific meanings, and you find long to-do lists energizing, we want to talk to you! There’s a lot to keep track of in this role, and nothing can fall through the cracks. Meeting quick deadlines is key.

  • A commitment to confidentiality. In this role, you’ll have a window into movement and organizational politics at the highest level – confidentiality is key.

  • Constructive optimism. The work that we do – be it political, organizing, or creative – is all about the art of the possible. While we’re looking to remedy deep structural issues, our progress comes incrementally – a series of wins, some small and some large, that help advance us closer to the systemic change we seek.

  • Project management skills. Demonstrated experience prioritizing competing projects and multi-tasking across a broad spectrum of collaborators based in various office locations or working remotely.

  • Be able to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing your job duties, and be comfortable in working under general supervision.
