Oral Surgery Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the surgeon during consultation and surgery appointments. This position requires the capability to genuinely serve patients on every level, including the ability to enhance patient satisfaction and increase office efficiency. This position provides excellent pro-operative and post-operative patient care.
40%: Assisting Doctor in surgeries, seating patients, and taking vitals. Maintaining competency for anesthesia monitoring. Completing consent forms and treatment plans. Documenting and maintaining records/charting within standards.
40%: Giving pre-operative and post-operative instructions. Obtaining medical clearances. Maintaining lab and adhering to OSHA and Regulatory guidelines. Provide radiation protection to all patients in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements. Produce radiographic images that consistently display proper exposure techniques and correct anatomical positioning values.
15%: Preparing and maintaining clinical equipment and instrument; Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approach conflict in a constructive manner. Identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, doctors, employees and visitors. Discuss patient, clinic and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Provide an excellent patient experience as well as other duties as assigned.
5%: Accept special projects and other responsibilities ad hoc.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be able to perform all job functions satisfactorily.
- Excellent communication and patient relations skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, fellow co-workers and Doctors.
- Some computer skills are required and Surgical Technicians are expected to reference the practice management software to retrieve information regarding Doctor’s schedules, patient information, etc.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 years’ experience in a medical and/or dental environment
- Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
Certifications and Safety Requirements:
- Basic CPR Certification required
- Oral and Maxillofacial Assisting/Dental Assistant Certification preferred
- Hepatitis B Vaccination & Titer
- TB Vaccination & Titer
