Position Summary

The Associate Director for Internal Communications is responsible for creating and implementing internal communications strategies throughout Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

The Associate Director for Internal Communications will manage a weekly CUIMC-wide e-newsletter and be responsible for creating communications that will be used on multiple platforms, requiring skills to research, write, edit, and evaluate communications and manage and assess processes for optimal communications. The Associate Director for Internal Communications will also draft executive communications for senior leadership.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director for Internal Communications will employ project management skills to track deadlines and should be experienced in CRM platforms (Mailchimp, others) and organizing both processes and people to ensure that the communications team remains efficient and productive while maintaining high standards.

Among the specific kinds of communications the Associate Director for Internal Communications will be responsible for:

  • Proofing and distribution of CUIMC-wide and other internal communications, as well as events calendar moderation
  • Playing a strategic role in CUIMC Newsroom content development, including Institutional announcements (news about organizational structure, administrative appointments, and employee recognition), and stories on CUIMC people, events, and initiatives that engage internal audiences
  • Speeches, announcements, and talking points for senior leadership
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience

Other Requirements

The Associate Director for Internal Communications is required to have a minimum of six years of relevant experience working as a writer, production coordinator, and/or web editor. The Associate Director for Internal Communications should be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and must have strong interpersonal skills. Executive communications experience is preferred, as is experience with managing an organization’s Intranet.

The incumbent should demonstrate the ability to work well, both independently and on teams. The incumbent should have excellent customer service standards, organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and the ability to work with creative teams and diverse audiences. The incumbent should be able to work in both Macintosh and PC environments and should have intermediate or higher knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
