Position Summary

The Columbia Metals Team in the Department of EHS at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health seeks a candidate for Project Coordinator for the Columbia University Northern Plains Superfund Research Program (CUNP-SRP) and other metal related projects. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for a range of research and administrative tasks for the federally sponsored CUNP-SRP and other grants by members of the Columbia Metals Team. The coordinator will be in regular communication and consultation with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other PIs and investigators from the Columbia Metals Team. Major duties will include support data entry, review and prepare protocols, website management, communication and social media, organizing team meetings and trips for students, staff, investigators and external collaborators, coordinate research and administrative agendas, support reimbursements, shipment of samples, and other research activities. A summary of the activities include:

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and organizing weekly research meetings, monthly seminars, monthly steering committee meetings, annual research meeting followed by a meeting with members of the advisory board, and other meetings and events. Prepare agendas and minutes for all meetings and coordinate traveling of external speakers and investigators.
  • Maintain and update the content of the CUNP-SRP and the Columbia Metals Team website, prepare the monthly report to the NIEHS and enter data to the NIEHS database system. Serve as a liaison for news communication with the funder and the Columbia Mailman School Communication office, and contribute to other communication activities.
  • Support the preparation of CUNP-SRP and Columbia Metals grant proposals, progress reports, carryover letters, and reports required by our Indigenous partners in the Northern Plains.
  • P-card and corporate cards holder to assist the Center projects and cores with orders and event reservations. Initiator of reimbursements associated to the Center.
  • Track Center members’ Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols and other requirements by the Tribal Research Review Boards and the
  • Ensure that all National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines for Open Access to Center publications is followed.
  • Potential participation in the annual research meeting organized by The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Superfund Research Program, which 2-3 days long. The travel costs will be covered by the Center.
  • Also serve as the Columbia liaison to the Community Engagement Core (CEC) which is located in the Northern Plains. Organize meetings with community partners ad needed.
  • Put together monthly news briefs to highlight member publications and activities to translate Center research findings to the community. Inform the funding agency of Center events, major research findings, CEC activities and media coverage by members.
  • Support trainees with activities as needed .
  • Perform other center and departmental duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to execute complex tasks under demanding deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with varied internal and external collaborators.
  • Detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and follow up.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels necessary as well as the ability to work in a highly visible fast paced environment all under the aegis of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, standard platforms for website building.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., public health, environmental health sciences, project/program management).
  • Familiar with Institutional Review board protocols, databases, etc.
