Job Posting for Director of Operations at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
Overview
Oversees Park and Visitor Operations departments and staff at the Wilds.
Responsibilities
Supervises park and visitor operations including: housekeeping, security, loss prevention, lodging, visitor service, admission, parking, shuttle, horseback, warehouse, food service, catering, retail, and zipline safaris (with support from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium).
Oversees titles, licenses, water systems, health permits and fire inspections.
Responsible for preparing invoices/purchase orders for all operations, and maintaining and developing Park and Visitor operations budget.
Responsible for developing and maintaining all tour operations for online reservation system, coupon processing and credit card processing.
Responsible for the implementation and administration of the POS system for admissions, food/beverage, retail, and parking.
Provides input on operational impact of all new programs/projects.
Interviews and hires full time and seasonal staff and determines appropriate number of staff to operate productively within the budget.
Responsible for staff schedules within the Park and Visitor Operations Departments and documents all early and late dismissals.
Ensures payroll information is properly prepared, recorded and maintained.
Develops training materials for seasonal staff and provides adequate training.
Oversees physical cash handling, including drawer reconciliation and open/close process.
Assists the retail coordinator with pricing, inventory management, staff and operating issues.
Coordinates and oversees special events held on property.
Establishes and maintains an open and constant line of communication with the Vice President on all issues.
Carefully documents all disciplinary problems reporting to the Vice President.
Develops a thorough understanding of each POS program in order to assist with clerk duties as needed.
Performs opening and closing procedures as needed.
Develops policies for all emergency and safety procedures.
Develops and modifies all policies and procedures ensuring that all Operations staff members have a written guideline that matches current policy
Responds to after-hours security alarm as needed.
Acts as a representative of the Wilds including appropriate dress, language and attitude in all activities, providing a positive example to all staff.
Provides all visitors with prompt friendly service.
Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Wilds, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari and Golf Club.
Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
Establishes diversity, equity, access, and inclusion as a priority in all programs and activities
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Two years previous supervisory experience required.
Three years of management experience in a similar industry preferred.
Administrative and organizational skills required.
