Working in the community as part of NHS Integrated Veterans Mental Health Service (Op Courage) in the North of England with some travel required and regular attendance at an NHS Hub.
About Us:
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we’ve been helping former servicemen and women deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
About the role:
This is a new and exciting position for a Substance Misuse Nurse to join Combat Stress and work alongside the NHS as part of Op Courage in the North of England. For a Substance Misuse Nurse, an appointment working with our Armed Forces veterans would be extremely rewarding. Our veterans have served in every campaign since the First World War and for over a hundred years our team has been there to support them with their mental health needs. You will work with a service user group who have a real motivation to make positive changes to their lives and your experience, compassion and focus on recovery will help achieve this.
The candidate should have an interest in supporting veterans into recovery from substance misuse.
Experience of working with military and veteran populations would be welcome but it is not essential.
You will work autonomously within a small but highly skilled multidisciplinary team to provide timely and high quality specialised substance misuse interventions for veterans.
You will provide flexible and individualised care packages to meet the requirements of veterans with mental health and substance misuse needs. You will require advanced clinical risk assessment and treatment skills, along with an understanding of the occupational role and needs of individuals presenting to the service. The role will require you to be proactive in the development of service and organisational initiatives.
This position will be largely virtual, however travel to stakeholder locations will be expected as required. The role will be integrated into the Op Courage treatment pathway.
We encourage applications from all demographics and are keen to hear from those who served in HM Forces or have experience supporting the military community.
This role is subject to a DBS check.
As a healthcare environment, and for the health and wellbeing of our staff, veterans and visitors, we encourage everyone at Combat Stress especially professionals that are veteran facing to take up the offer to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
What we offer:
You will work within a reputable charity that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our veterans, that has a fantastic cause and a committed follower base.
Benefits:
- 27 days paid holiday plus bank holidays. After 5 years continuous service, this will increase to 30 days paid holiday plus bank holidays and after 10 years continuous service, this will increase to 33 days paid holiday plus bank holidays
