Responsibilities
The paramedic works in the Emergency Department and is responsible for providing quality technical care to each patient under the supervision of an RN or the Emergency Department physician. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: safety, patient care tasks, and procedures communication, customer service, and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform patient care duties utilizing a team approach in collaboration with the RN's, MD's, and other team members of the comprehensive care team.
2. The ideal candidate will have clinical care experience, including but not limited to: monitoring vital signs, medication administration, inserting IV's, inserting NG's and urinary catheters, assisting with 12 lead ECG, assisting with wound care, assisting with suctioning, and completing proper documentation.
3. Paramedics can perform repeated assessments and evaluation on the following patients: urgent monitored, urgent non-monitored, non-urgent.
4. The assessment may include airway and breath sounds, heart tones, perfusion indicators, vital signs, cardiac rhythm, Glasgow Coma Scale, pain level and location, neurovascular checks, appearance of wounds and injuries, abdominal assessment, intake and output.
5. The Paramedic CANNOT do: Triage, initial assessment on emergent patients, discharge, obtain blood from an implantable venous device such as a port, PICC, or central venous catheter, Rapid Sequence Intubation, intubation, conscious sedation, transport critical care patients without an RN present.
Qualifications
Required Education:
* Graduate of an approved paramedic program or college equivalent
Required Licensure and Certifications:
* Active/Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License, BLS, ACLS, PALS
PREFERRED Qualifications:
* PHTLS/ITLS, NIHSS, critical care certification, Preferred minimum 3 years' experience with 911 service
