THE POSITION

The park is hiring a seasonal full-time, wage position to provide the public a safe enjoyable environment for recreation and relaxation.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a DCNR Park Ranger, you will provide safety and law enforcement services, patrol State Park property and boundaries to ensure the safety of visitors and park grounds. You will meet with the public to provide information and answer questions regarding state park and state forest resources, facilities, recreational schedules, history, and environmental features. Also Explain state park and state forest rules, regulations, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to the public.

You will also take charge of situations in emergencies, search and rescue and accidents to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the resource, provide first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications, direct traffic, inspect buildings and structures for public safety hazards, take action to correct hazards, or report them to the supervisor/manager.

Other duties also include completing monthly and daily logs including the status and condition of campgrounds, group camps, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, occurring incidents, citations, arrests, accidents and attendance, preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other written materials and input data using a personal computer.

You will also operate motor vehicles, both two and four wheel drive, all-terrain vehicles, non-motorized equipment, snowmobiles, and watercraft, register park visitors, post camper and pavilion registrations, perform POS transactions and prepare end of day reports using a personal computer and the AWO system.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment.
  • This position is being posted for the 2022 season, which runs approximately from April to November. Season lengths may differ based on operational needs.
  • Work hours vary: 40 hours per week at a 7 days/week operation. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts as required by Park Management.
  • There are no benefits.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the DCNR Ranger Trainee program; or
  • Completion of 15 credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or related natural resource or recreation courses; and completion of a department- recognized police training course such as the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (Act 120), or completion of an equivalent law enforcement officer training or certification program that allows eligibility for commissioning as a police officer.
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
  • Possession of a valid certification or its equivalent in first aid and adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as approved by the PA Department of Health for professional rescuers or healthcare professionals.
  • Must obtain commission as a State Park or State Forest Officer that includes powers of arrest and maintain this commission during employment in this job.

  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014, this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal, and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
