The State Museum of Pennsylvania is looking for a skilled and energetic person to provide custodial and maintenance services throughout the State Museum and Pennsylvania State Archives complex. In addition, this Custodial Guide 1 position assists in setting up the facilities for special events. This entry-level position reports to the Building Maintenance Foreman. A Custodial Guide 1 performs general housekeeping details such as cleaning restrooms, restocking restroom supplies, floor cleaning/spill cleanups, and disinfection procedures throughout the museum. You will assist with program/event setups and tear downs; perform minor maintenance by providing assistance to maintenance personnel and report maintenance concerns to the Foreman for follow-up. Other duties include providing visitors services by placing stanchions; providing information and directions; and answering questions about the museum; inspecting and providing reports on emergency exit stairways for lighting, cleanliness, and accessibility on a weekly basis.
You will respond to alarms and alerts; implement safety, accident, and security procedures; assist visitors and employees during emergency situations; perform inspections of facilities; and complete incident/accident reports as needed. On a limited basis, you may be asked to provide a security presence in the State Museum and Archives buildings in assigned areas; monitor video surveillance system and fire and security systems; be alert to weak security points and potential missing or damaged artifacts.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment. 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday - Sunday, with 60-minute lunch.
- Overtime may be required.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months of experience in security or buildings and grounds maintenance work; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a standard high school; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's Driver's License.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Willing and able to work in Dauphin County.
- Experience performing commercial janitorial work.
- Experience performing building and/or grounds maintenance work.
- Experience performing security work.
- Experience using a computer and Microsoft Office software including Word, Outlook, and Excel and also security software.
- Experience monitoring security cameras and computer programs that aid surveillance.
- Ability to lift and move objects or equipment up to 40 pounds.
