The Benefits Associate is situated in the Human Resources Welcome Center and serves as principal service contact for all faculty and staff benefits inquiries. The individual collaborates with other employee benefits staff to ensure customer service excellence and in the coordination, implementation, operation, reporting and evaluation of employee benefits programs. Additionally, the Benefits Associate serves as backup to other human resources team members in the Human Resources Welcome Center, maintaining a general knowledge of information needed to address routine questions regarding payroll, leave, and other service areas within VCU Human Resources. The Benefits Associate is responsible for creating positive first impressions for faculty and staff requesting benefits assistance, for maintaining current knowledge of all benefits programs available to faculty and staff, and for providing accurate and reliable consultation and service to employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia and VCU employee benefits programs, including but not limited to health benefits, defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, disability programs, tax-deferred savings programs and leave.
- Working knowledge of Banner software, Commonwealth of Virginia Cardinal HCM system, and/or Virginia Retirement System Navigator
- Experience in benefits plan administration, including vendor contact, problem-solving and customer service.
- Experience in administering service retirement under the Virginia Retirement System.
- Knowledge of federal regulations concerning 403b Tax Sheltered Savings programs.
- Experience conducting employee benefits orientations in individual and group settings
-Demonstrated knowledge of employee benefits programs, including but not limited to health benefits, defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, disability programs, tax-deferred savings programs and leave.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia, federal and local laws and regulations related to employee benefits, including but not limited to COBRA, HIPAA, disability, and FMLA.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state human resource policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and principles and practices, especially in the areas of personnel records, confidentiality of protected health information and employment classification.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain benefit plan designs, eligibility, provisions, processes and service channels clearly and thoroughly to participants.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the interface between employee benefits programs and other human resources practices and procedures, including leave and compensation.
