About the Agency:
The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Maneuver Training Center (MTC) Fort Barfoot (formally Pickett) is comprised of 41,000 acres which includes the Garrison Area, Maneuver Training Areas, Range Areas, Blackstone Army Airfield (BAAF) and Natural Forested Areas and is the main training site for the Virginia Army National Guard and also serves as a training site for all other Branches of the Military.
Purpose of Position:
Ensures the ranges and maneuver spaces are maintained and ready for use. Ensures that a significant number of target mechanisms
on each range are operational. Repairs and replaces target mechanisms as required. Repairs all types of targets within authorized
maintenance level. Ensures serviceability of range facilities, (towers, vegetation, and electrical), by performing carpentry and
electrical repairs within authorized maintenance levels. Performs operator/repair maintenance on assigned equipment, (tractors, weed
eater, chainsaws, batteries and associated equipment).
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to repair electrical and mechanical systems on target mechanisms assigned;
Ability to perform carpentry and electrical repairs;
Ability to repair some computerized components;
Ability to operate computer terminal;
Ability to perform operator maintenance on tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, and some limited repair;
Ability to read and write;
Valid Virginia Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
Additional Considerations
Prior experience as a target technician preferred.
