Position Overview
This position provides a full range of professional support to the Communications and Community Engagement Office (CCO). The Coordinator will support various types of communication programs and functions to produce and uphold satisfactory public relations for the school division within the LCPS community.
Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
- Assists in the development and maintenance of communication goals, strategies and plans.
- Develops presentations, social media campaigns, news releases, background papers, fact sheets, website content, and other information-sharing tools.
- Assists in the coordination of public relations events, including sending invitations, corresponding with community stakeholders, sharing information with local media outlets, reserving venues, and supporting audiovisual needs.
- Collaborates with LCPS administrators and departments to identify and develop communications content to be shared publicly.
- Provides support in communicating school closures or emergency events, including updating social media feeds, emails, text alerts, and updating website content.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders. May serve as the representative in key stakeholder groups.
- Position requires frequent attendance of events and response to emergent situations outside of normal business hours.
Qualifications
Below are the qualifications for this position:
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, marketing, communication or related field
- Five years of professional experience in marketing, communications or other related experience
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Demonstrated good judgment in handling sensitive subjects as an organization’s representative
- Experience and knowledge in managing, developing, and executing social media campaigns
- Experience in planning and directing internal (employee) communication programs, including experience with website and intranet design
- Knowledge of the LCPS community and experience working with diverse communities
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use Hootsuite or similar social media management tools
- Demonstrated effective project management skills, from concept and planning through tactical execution and evaluation, including managing the work of various professionals in the development and delivery of publications and web content
- Possesses the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school and administrative personnel at multiple levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders
- Demonstrates excellent writing skills, including journalistic, social media and script-writing
- Strong skills with MS Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, as well as Google suite.

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Itinerant travel is required, and the employee is frequently required to change locations and adapt to multiple environments across schools and offices. Ability to drive and navigate to multiple locations occasionally within a single day is required.

Months/Days/Hours: 12 months, 248 days, 8 hours per day

Salary Range: $82,622 to $136,120 per year
