POSITION TITLE: Web Designer
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
STATUS: Full-time (40 hrs.)
LOCATION: CBC Main Campus
REPORTS TO: Marketing Director
JOB SUMMARY
The Web Designer is responsible for the front-end functionality of CBC’s website and web integration with Shelby Arena, as well as overall specifics of the website (as directed by the Marketing Director).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Modify and enhance code for themed-based Content Management Systems (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, ExpressionEngine) and knowledge of creation/modification of DNN and WordPress modules to extend the functionality of these platforms
- Monitor and Administer Web server and set up maintenance (including managing backups of SQL databases)
- Research new technologies and stay up to speed on current ones and how they could benefit CBC’s web presence
- Design, build, or maintain CBC’s website, using authoring or scripting languages, content creation tools, management tools, and digital media
- Perform or direct website updates
- Write, design, edit web page content or direct others producing content
- Confer with management or development teams to prioritize needs, resolve conflicts, develop content criteria, or choose solutions
- Monitor and administer flat file backups for quick restore and business continuity
- Proactively identify website issues through testing/customer feedback
- Evaluate code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems utilizing a change management git system
- Maintain an understanding of current web technologies or programming practices through continuing education, reading, or participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups
- Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements
- Keep CBC’s web presence professional, up to date, and conforming to design best practices
- Coordinate with ministries for updated information
- Research, suggest, and develop new technologies on the CBC site
- Monitor web content for updates
- Manage High 5 production and distribution
- Set up and maintain merchant accounts associated with the web
- Manage the CBC webserver (maintain functionality and make back-ups)
- Design new sites for ministries as needed
- Research and develop integrating video within the website
- Perform other duties as needed
COMPENTANCIES
- Able to modify and enhance code for themed-based Content Management Systems (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, ExpressionEngine) as well as ability to create modules to extend the functionality of these platforms
- High proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Contribute
- Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, and Flash (including ActionScript)
- Able to code HTML and CSS by hand
- Familiar with PHP and able to modify pre-coded modules
- Familiar with JavaScript and JavaScript libraries like jquery
- Experience creating XHTML tableless websites is a plus
- UX Design experience is a plus
- Bonus knowledge in DART and flutter mobile application design
- Experience with email newsletters
- Aware of current web development standards and best practices
- Must be trained in graphic design standards and best practices
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to take criticism.
- Possess strong communication skills in the English language (verbal and writing)
- Ability to maintain professional relationships, high energy level, and exhibits a positive attitude

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of operation are scheduled anytime Monday – Thursday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be needed as job duties demand.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to do the following:
- Must have good or corrected vision as well as effective peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Must have good manual dexterity and be able to use repetitive motion of the hands and arms
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
- Must be able to frequently and effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 30 pounds and/or push/pull objects up to 50 pounds
- Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma and College/Technical/Trade School or a combination of College/Technical/Trade School/related on-the-job experience. Associate Degree: a plus will consider experience
- 3 years solid experience in all phases of Web Design
- Application development experience in a web programming language (PHP, Ruby on Rails, or .NET)
- Experience in Content Management Systems (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, ExpressionEngine) and knowledge of creation/modification of DNN and WordPress modules to extend the functionality of these platforms
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are performed in an office setting where the work and general environment may be fast-paced and hectic at times. Therefore, it is essential that the employee can effectively handle the normal anxieties associated with the job and manage multiple projects in service-oriented environment. Environmental noise levels are minimal.
