This is a unique opportunity to join our team and support the growth our program with the aim of supporting program participants in a "whole-person" centered service.
Our medical billing specialist makes it all possible by working behind the scenes in this program to ensure billing and claims processes are completed with high quality and accuracy. The Billing Specialist performs and is responsible for billing and processing claims appropriately for timeliness in reimbursement and billing compliance with Medi-Cal - CalAIM, Medicare, and general insurance reimbursement requirements. The Billing Specialist is also responsible for assisting the Finance Department with other agency-wide fiscal support activities.
This is a Full-time positioin, non-exempt position with benefits.

Essential Functions: Duties include but are not limited to
- Ability to process invoices/claims and input charges into practice management systems.
- Ensures timely submission and acceptance of claims to all payers.
- Ability to resolve invoice/claim denials and assist in collection of billing balances.
- Achieve maximum allowable reimbursement for services performed.
- Ensure data privacy and security practices in support of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are in place and conduct quality compliance reviews
- Utilize Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes and modifiers to report services.
- Utilize Collective Medi-Cal system and Simple Practice systems
- Ensure all paperwork, forms, and appropriate documentation is completed for the programs billing procedures, TAR's.
- Provides information to payors and ensures that reimbursement is received.
- Prepares bills, monthly statements, and timely claims submission;
- Maintains appropriate accounting documentation and financial records of all program expenditures
- Assist Director of Finance in audits as required by program policy, contracts, and state and federal law.
- Provide account and administrative support to the Finance Department on an as needed basis
- Consistently reports to work, on-time, prepared to perform the duties of the position
- Maintain a positive and respectful attitude with all work-related contacts
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of professional medical billing experience (experience billing Medi-Cal preferred)
- High School graduate or equivalent required. College degree/certificate preferred.
- Experience with confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Working to thorough knowledge of: medical reimbursement programs and complexity of payment systems; Current Procedural Terminology Codes (CPT) codes, International Classification for Diseases (ICD)-10 codes, and Health Care Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for payment processing of Commercial Insurance, Collective Medi-Cal System; Simple Practice system, Medi-Cal Provider Manual for Billing and Policy and Program and Eligibility; the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Treatment Authorization Request (TAR) process.
- High level of organization and strong time-management skills.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) and CMRS (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist) preferred.
- Administrative support and Behavioral Health experience are also desirable.
- Ability to work independently and perform critical work under deadlines.
- Must meet necessary California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing requirements, including : passing required background check, and tuberculosis screening.
