Working Arrangement Hybrid Job Description The opportunity The Assistant Chief Counsel role provides robust legal analysis, advice and counsel to support John Hancock Investment Management and John Hancock mutual funds, ETFs and other investment products. In addition, the role will consistently advise senior business people on strategic legal matters and mentor junior counsels. Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice to John Hancock Investment Management and its affiliated companies. Advise the Company of known risks and assess and report to the appropriate Company officers as to whether those risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored and reported Engage outside counsel (when vital and appropriate) after acquiring the necessary approvals, and manage the process of selecting, hiring, monitoring, paying and providing mentorship and direction to such outside counsel. Provide any other legal advice that management may require Actively participate in and support relevant public policy, regulatory and lobbying activities and initiatives of industry trade organizations Mentor junior counsel(s) and associates Participate in industry conferences, presentations, committees and working groups May lead legal research projects/initiatives and product launches. Job Requirements: Member in good standing with the Ba Licensed to practice law in the United States Minimum 10 years prior proven experience with major law firm and/or in-house corporate role Experience with and knowledge of the legislative frameworks Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Outstanding influencing and negotiation skills Highly organized with proven mentoring and coaching skills Tactful and operates with a high level of discretion Ability to quickly identify and respond to legal problems/risk.
