Compass, Inc., a progressive non-profit agency supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities located in Beltsville, Md., is seeking a highly skilled, self-starter for the position of Behavior Support Coordinator.  This position reports to the Director of Quality Advancement and coordinates behavior support services ensuring supports are in place for the training and implementation of behavior plans, provides on-going staff training regarding behavior support plans and performs as liaison between Behavior Consultants and Compass staff.  This position is a hybrid position between working in office and working from home, as well as working in the field and directly interacting with people supported, direct support professionals, house managers, program coordinators, and small groups.  All activities must support the mission and strategic goals and objectives of Compass as well as support the Quality Advancement Department’s mission.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for the achievement of appropriate, high-quality behavior plan documents to meet the true needs of all individuals who require such services.
  • Perform as liaison between the Behavior Consultants (BCs) and Compass regarding the provision of quality behavior support services all throughout the plan development and implementation workflow, overseeing the BSS referral process and coordinating flow of information between Compass and referring and authorizing agencies.
  • Provide observation and assessment for individuals who may require behavior support services or who may necessitate a change in their current prescribed behavior support services.
  • Coordinate Behavior Support Plan (BSP) updates process for renewal of services in conjunction with annual Person-Centered Team Meetings and Planning.  
  • Organize and participate in Behavior Consultations for updating BSPs, coordinate caseload updates, review BSPs for needed edits and schedule and lead the team review.
  • Facilitate and oversee Standing Committee process for review and approval of behavior plans, chemical supports as well as assisting agency to maintain Standing Committee guidelines.
  • Provide ongoing preventative efforts for all clients participating in BSS program- Brief Support Implementation Services (BSIS) including following up on behavioral incidents, providing feedback to Behavior Consultants, and implementation of the BSP through modeling and instruction onsite and providing guidance to staff based on recommendations of the BSP.
  • Respond to incidents and crisis situations in a timely manner and provide administration and consultants with relevant information/recommendations.
  • Complete BSS billing which includes reviewing invoices from Behavior Consultants, creating invoices for BSIS services and comparing to funding tracker to ensure service is billable, maintains funding tracking with approved and completes all billing documents.
  • Assist with provision of Mandt Training as a Certified Mandt Instructor and maintain instructor certification.
  • Input and Maintain Behavior Support Plans and goals in ICM.
  • Implement modified Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies as appropriate.
  • Attend IP Meetings and support person-centered IP for individuals with challenging behavioral issues.
  • Review behavior plans with individual teams, to include Program Coordinators, Day/Community Services, Resource Coordinators, parents, guardians, and individuals.
  • Make referrals to outside entities providing behavior support services and behavior consultants.
  • Review and maintain departmental services and billing of all behavior support services provided to clients, Behavior Assessment, Behavior Plan, Behavioral Consultation and Brief Support Implementation Services.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or another related field.  Certification as Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) also required or must be willing and able to complete coursework provided by Compass and all requirements for RBT certification during first 60 days of employment.  Mandt Trainer Certification also required or must be willing and able to complete Mandt Instructor Training Certification provided by Compass within 60 days of employment.  Minimum of two years’ professional experience implementing behavior support plans and prior professional experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.  The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and have a keen interest in improving the quality of life for people supported by Compass, Inc.

Compensation and Work Conditions: Competitive salary, excellent benefits. Hours of work are typically 9a-5p.  Hybrid remote work from home with some days in the office or in the field.  Must have reliable own transportation for visiting other work sites.  Mileage reimbursed.   Expected to be on rotating call to respond to crises. Excellent benefits include health, dental, vision, short term disability, life insurance, EAP, retirement plan with generous employer match, three weeks PTO, 10 paid holidays, wellness activities including onsite gym.  Must be able to sit for extended periods, bend, pull, push, and lift up to 25 pounds (lifting is infrequent.)
