Technical Assistant - Miami Valley Hospital Blood Transfusion Services Day Shift Opening

Technical Assistant role located in the Blood Transfusion Services department at Miami Valley Hospital.   Full Time Day Shift - 6:30am-3:00pm Every other weekend/Holiday Rotation  Summary  Perform various tasks is assigned laboratory departments to assist technical/pathology staff accurately and efficiently generate test results. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, quality control, specimen handling and preparation, as well as testing and reporting.  Duties Operate laboratory instrumentation independently including complex troubleshooting and scheduling field service calls as deemed necessary following the directions of department laboratory professional and pathology staff. Understand all menu pathways of local computer system as it pertains to assigned job function including instructing technical staff on advanced computer functions. Handling client related questions and concerns in a courteous and efficient manner following department policies and procedures including the scheduling of complex texting. Perform specimen handling, control, and tracking functions, which may include the handling of potentially infectious/carcinogenic materials. Track, inventory, and order supplies as needed. Submit credit requests and interpretation fees, scan raw data patient assay results into Optika and retrieve patient reports as directed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. clinical lab experience preferred. Excellent communication skills required. Medical terminology and keyboarding skills helpful. Must be able to lift/move approximately 50 pounds.  Physical demands and work environment: Hand-finger dexterity to collect and process specimens. Ability to work in an environment where standing prolonged amounts of time may be required. Comprehension of verbal and written directions.  Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.  Ability to work within specified deadlines and timetables.  Excellent communication and people skills.  Must be able to work well under pressure or in stressful circumstances. Safety demands and requirements: Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals  Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.  Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.  Complete required training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
