What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Comunilife?
Essential Functions:
- Assists with hands on managing of day-to-day all financial activities and accounting functions.
- Manages the month-end close process and all financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely
preparation and distribution of internal and external financial reports. - Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- In conjunction with Grants Management, post monthly revenue based on funder invoices.
- Monitor cash and funding balances and assist with the development of a forward looking cash
flow projection. - Oversee the accounting operations of Comunilife affiliates, especially their control systems,
transaction-processing operations and policies and procedures. - Ensure that accounts receivable are collected timely.
- Assist with processing payroll in a timely manner and accurately posting to the general ledger.
- Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax
filings - Assist VP of Finance with all agency financial audits – Comunilife, subsidiaries, affiliates,
retirement plans (IRS-990, Char 500, and Uniform Guidance). - Work closely with all funding sources, including NYC HRA/HASA, HUD, SAMSHA, HPD, OTDA, DASNY, NYS OMH, DYCD, NYC DOHMH, AIDS Institute, Medicaid reimbursement, and SSA;
- Respond to all government requests (census financial data, etc.);
Education and Experience Requirement(s)
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
- Ideal candidate has 7 to 10 years of experience in field, preferably as a Controller or Finance Director.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred but not required.
- Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager
- Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software (Great Plains) and Microsoft Office Suite; Access, database, or other system knowledge
- Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation
- Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations; Attention to detail
- Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
- Experience in working in the non-profit field is highly desirable, especially working with the following government funders: NYSOMH, NYCHRA, NYCDHS, NYCDOHMH, AIDS Institute, OTDA, Medicaid reimbursement, and SSA tax credit financing.
- Ability to motivate staff and build teamwork.

Salary : $105,000 - $110,000
