Travel Dialysis Nurse

Summary/Objective
Concerto is seeking a Travel Dialysis Nurse to join its team! The Travel Dialysis Nurse supervises dialysis care in accordance with policy, procedure, and training and in compliance with state and federal regulations, assures responsibility for the unit and works collaboratively with members of the hemodialysis healthcare team, and Supervises care given by dialysis technicians while assuming a ‘hands on’ role and fostering a team approach to patient care.
Essential Functions
- Provides customer service to all external and internal customers including patients/family, staff, physicians, and long-term care staff.
- Provides continuous education to patients regarding their renal disease, vascular access, dialysis therapy and other health related conditions.
- Delegates tasks to dialysis technicians in order to provide safe and effective delivery of dialysis therapy as prescribed.
- Directs dialysis technicians using compliance standards, policy and procedures, as well as regulations set forth by state and federal agencies.
- Provides, supervises, and monitors hemodialysis care according to policy and procedure.
- Ensures and verify accuracy and timely documentation by the dialysis technician.
- Perform pre and post treatment assessments, documents interventions and response to interventions performed.
- Assess patients’ response to hemodialysis therapy, making appropriate adjustments to the treatment plan as prescribed.
- Ensures lab specimens are properly obtained and packaged according to Department of Transportation (DOT) policies and procedures.
- Collaborates and communicate with other members of the hemodialysis health care team to interpret, adjust, and coordinate care provided to the patient.
- Ensures all relevant data including physician orders, lab results, medication administration, admission/discharge data, treatment parameters and patient condition are all documented appropriately, according to policy and entered into electronic medical record.
- Reviews lab results timely and report critical data to the physician.
- Ensure timely completion of patient assessments and care plans.
- Maintains overall shift operation in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Administers medication as prescribed and completes appropriate documentation.
- Travel out of state to assigned markets and facilities as dictated by operational need.
Expectations & Benefits of Travel Roles
Expectations:
- The Travel Dialysis Nurse staffs Concerto facilities across all markets nationwide. The incumbent will travel regularly.
- Work location on any given day or week will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to patient census, leave of absence coverage and fluctuating staffing needs in general.
- The Travel Dialysis Nurse is generally “on-call” Monday through Friday, meaning at any point Monday through Friday, the travel teammate may be required to staff any Concerto facility. As a result, there will be times when the teammate is required to travel out of state with little notice. Phone calls and text messages from managers to travel teammates on scheduled on-call days must be returned within 15 minutes. If there is no answer or return call, this will count as an absence and the on-call teammates will be required to use available Paid Time Off to cover the absence.
- An exception to the 15-minute response time rule is made for overnight contacts. Specifically, between the hours of 9:00PM and 4:00AM, teammates may check their phones whenever it is convenient for them.
- The travel teammate may work up to six days a week, while other weeks may result in less work.
- If the travel teammate is not needed outside of their home state on any given day, they will be “on-call” may be called into work for any local unit.
- While the Travel Dialysis Nurse will generally work Monday-Friday, because of fluctuating staffing needs, the workdays may occasionally vary from the Monday-Friday schedule. In these instances, the leadership team will provide as much notice as is operationally possible so the teammate can plan accordingly.
- In the event a travel teammate works a Saturday or Sunday, they will be paid their hourly rate for working those hours, in addition to their base salary.
- Travel teammates should follow market-specific protocol for calling off, first notifying designated market leadership of their impending absence, and then notifying the travel manager.
- If the travel teammate is unavailable to work their scheduled shift or complete an assignment for any reason, the absence will be subject to Concerto’s standard Attendance and Paid Time Off Policies and the associated corrective action schedule for any violations.
Benefits:
- $25 cell phone reimbursement per pay period
- Biweekly stipend of $700, which is intended to cover the cost of meals and incidental costs associated with travel. The teammate will receive the stipend even if they are not required to travel out of state during a given pay period.
- If a teammate is required to travel for seven consecutive weeks, they will have three options for the eight week –
- Travel home (paid by Concerto) and utilize 40 hours of PTO to take the week off of work;
- Travel home (paid by Concerto) and be scheduled “On call” in home market, meaning the teammate may be required to work, depending on staffing needs in the market.
- Continue traveling.
- If the teammate chooses to continue traveling, they will be required to return home after 12 weeks of consecutive travel.
- Additional pay at hourly base rate if teammate works a Saturday, in addition to base salary.
- Overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week.
- Travel teammate may stay in a hotel (though it is not required) if they are traveling more than 60 miles in one direction for a work obligation.
- Travel teammate will be eligible for mileage reimbursement when driving their personal vehicle for business purposes, in accordance with Concerto’s Travel Policy.
- As with any direct care positions, travel teammates will generally be required to work on Holidays. However, as a benefit of travel position with Concerto, each travel teammate will be scheduled off for at least one of the following six federal holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day. Concerto Leadership will always attempt to schedule travel teammates off for the holiday of their preference, but ability to accommodate preferences will always depend on census and staffing needs.
Physical Demands
Job requires walking, standing for long periods, stooping ad bending. Must be able to do light lifting of at least 25 lbs. Requires close mental, visual and auditory attention to patient. Work environment is characteristic of health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious disease/materials.
Incumbent must be able to withstand the physical demands of regular air and car travel across states & time zones.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
- Current State appropriate License and willing to be licensed in multiple states
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience
- Dialysis experience required
- Certifications: CPR certified
- Teammates in travel roles must have the flexibility to travel frequently and work varying schedules
