OFFICE PROFILE:
The Division of University Advancement is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of external communications and all fundraising and friendraising activities, including alumni and family relations, church & community relations, as well as corporate and foundation relations. University Advancement is an integral part of the university's ministry and outreach. The University engages in annual and multi-year comprehensive campaigns supporting academic programs, capital projects, endowments and student aid.

Vision 2025 which focuses on renovations of the CU Center and Nelson Amphitheatre and construction of the Eagle Athletics Complex is one such initiative.

ROLE:
The Development Officer is responsible for developing donor relationships and solicitation strategies among mid-range annual donors and prospects and major gift prospects. Working with the Advancement team and select University staff and faculty, the Development Officer will devise marketing strategies and outreach opportunities to attract mid-range prospects. He/She will place a major emphasis on the development and cultivation of new prospects and the stewardship of assigned donors. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university.

STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:
 Report to the Vice President of Advancement, Marketing and Communications
 Work closely with the Executive Director of Advancement Operations & Donor Stewardship and the
Senior Director of Annual Giving and Alumni & Family Engagement
 Work closely with all members of the University Advancement team
 Work with other offices on campus, as well as Advancement volunteers
 Serve as a member of the Donor Visitation Team (DVT)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Identify new annual donors and other major donor prospects. Develop and implement strategies to introduce, cultivate and solicit gifts. Assist university-wide efforts to identify, cultivate and solicit major donors. Implement major gift initiatives for campus-wide priorities.
2. With members of the Development Team, vet donors and prospects through methods of discovery, to determine donor viability and capacity.
3. Manage a portfolio of 150 potential and current mid-range ($1,000 to $5,000) annual donors and prospects.
4. Develop, write and implement strategies to acquire new individual donors.

5. Personally visit and cultivate 20 prospects or donors per month, solicit prospects and donors for gifts and pledges as appropriate.
6. Solicit multi-year pledges to priority capital and annual projects.
7. Assist with planning, organizing and developing strategies for successful donor and prospective donor events.
8. Assist in the identification and recruitment of new volunteer leaders for various university governance and advisory boards and committees such as the Foundation Board of Trustees, the President's Advisory Council, and the Alumni Board.
9. Gain a general understanding of planned giving, grant writing, and endowment giving.
10. Participate in Advancement-sponsored donor cultivation events; attend university cultural and sporting events; and promote/represent the university as needed among a variety of constituencies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, master's preferred, and three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret university procedures, general information, educational publications, synodical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, faculty, administration, students, families and the general public. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
