Adult Program Nurse
Under direct supervision and direction of the Adult Program Administrator, the incumbent provides professional nursing that advances the well being and health of the program participants. The incumbent in this classification is responsible for administering medications, addressing medical emergencies, assessing circumstances and conditions, and resolving such according to established procedures and protocols. An important aspect of the position is assessing the health needs of the assigned individual(s) and formulating health development plans. Duties are performed in accordance with standards of professional nurse practices
In accordance with the federal wage-hour laws, this is a salaried position and is not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.

Successful performance on the job requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or students, dress standards, attendance and leave policies, and compliance with other policies set forth in the Employee Handbook. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving is also important to the success of the incumbent.
Examples of Essential Functions
- Prepare medical for administration and dispense such to program participant in accordance with physician orders and established time schedules.
- Charts and maintains an accurate record of activities performs such as medications dispensed, incident reports, nursing notes, daily treatments and interventions.
- Monitors medications and materials to insure appropriate supply levels; reorders as necessary.
- Establish an accident/injury prevention program to facilitate program participant safety.
- Manage program participant health records in accordance with applicable state and local regulations.
- Serves as a resource and specialist in health issues.
- Provide staff in-service programs on health topics including blood borne pathogens.
- Provide health related instruction to staff and adult program participants.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling and brisk walking, and which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (45 lbs.).
- Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc.
- The ability to keep up with running program participants and or to lift or assist with lifting a program participant is essential.
- As needed, may be assigned responsibility for supervision of programmatic activities.
- As needed, perform duties normally assigned to the Adult Program Assistants.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Successful completion of the required training courses within a specified period of time.
- Tuberculosis screening to assure no significant risk to the health and safety of others.
- Successfully passing a criminal background investigation and pre-employment and random drug screenings.

Sensory Requirements
Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
Minimum Acceptable Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in nursing and possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or Virginia at date of hire; Bachelor’s degree in nursing and Maryland delegating nurse credential preferred along with prior experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities/autism.
