JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective:

The HR/Training Assistant is to assist in the execution of Human Resources functions and training and development for staff members. Specifically, responsible for payroll, recruitment/hiring, benefits administration, scheduling, coordinating, communicating, monitoring and handling of logistics for hiring and training and performs related work as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the HR department in carrying out various Human Resources programs for all credit union employees.
  • Communicates with employees and management on various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulation.
  • May assist Manager in administration and supports tasks related to the leave of absence program, including: OFLA/FMLA, Oregon Sick Paid, etc.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the HR processes and procedures.
  • Maintains a system where managers are notified in a timely manner to provide performance evaluations and merit increases.
  • Determines and communicates with supervisors, vacation time off requests’ authorization or denial.
  • Assists with recruitment, interview and termination processes.
  • Conducts background, credit checks and verifies references of prospective employees as requested on new employees.
  • Coordinate training schedule with the hiring and training demands of the credit union.
  • Conduct empowering new-hire onboarding, training and introduction to our culture.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Confer with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training.
  • Assist managers in monitoring and maintaining learning measurement criteria to ensure that training content addresses performance gaps.
  • Recommend and develop teaching aids such as training handbooks, power-point, tutorials with the utilization of SharePoint.
  • Coordinates and conducts benefits enrollment for new employees.
  • Secure time sheets, certify accuracy, and prepare them within organized time limits.
  • Process payroll for the organization on an Internet based platform semi-monthly.
  • Assist managers with questions concerning “how to” execute specific tasks.
  • Stay up to date on the most current policies, procedures, products, operating systems, regulatory compliance requirements and credit union initiatives.
  • Maintains an adequate personnel filing system that meets the needs of the credit union and complies with current employment practices.
  • Develop testing to measure the effectiveness of the training and measure employee(s) progress. Determine if objectives of the training sessions are being met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and work with others to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to calculate incentives, percentages, figures and amounts and the ability to interpret common mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledge utilizing Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional and core systems.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a financial institution environment.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The HR/Training Assistance position is a full-time position, non-exempt position. Primarily in an office environment and periodic weekend or evening work is expected.

Travel:

Will be expected to travel on occasion for continued education, seminars and training.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience in a financial institution environment.
  • Previous credit union and training experience or one-year related training experience preferred.
  • Ability to mentor and coach employees.
