We are an on-line news site covering several communities in Northwest New Jersey. We are searching for a managing editor who has a passion for local news and can take our publication to the next level of success. Our mission is to provide timely and meaningful local news that creates a more informed and engaged community.
Currently this position is for a part-time independent contractor.
What we need from you:
- Develop our editorial strategy based on our mission and reader data
- Uphold our values of honesty and unbiased reporting
- Build, manage and mentor a team of freelance writers by facilitating a culture of teamwork
- Prioritize and assign news coverage to ensure timely publication
- Build a strong foundation of fact checking
- Edit and proofread content
- Knowledge of online media operations and best practices
- Upload content to our WordPress website
- Be a team player who collaborates with the management team to ensure strategic goals are met

Does this sound like you?
- 1 years of proven working editorial and management experience
- BA in journalism, communication, marketing or related field
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills
- Leadership skills to effectively manage a team of writers
- Organizational and time management skills to manage and prioritize content
- Able to meet deadlines and budget requirements
- Experience with WordPress or another CMS platform
- Team player who can effectively interact with our contributors and all managing team members
- Resides in Northwest NJ
Compensation
Our base rate is $25 per hour, but that is negotiable based on experience and expertise.
