Connecticut College is conducting a national search for an experienced Writer. The Writer will write, edit, develop and curate strategic content for various College communication channels, including the College’s website, CC Magazine, annual report and other print and digital communications, prioritizing support for institutional reputation, Advancement and Admission audiences, institutional events and internal communications. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package.

General Duties &
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a primary writer for the College’s website, including helping to coordinate web page content, maintaining content calendars, reporting College news and covering institutional events.
  • Serve as a primary writer for the College’s magazine, including news stories, profiles and features, and assist in the planning and production of the magazine.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that content developed for diverse communications vehicles is effectively repurposed across teams and channels, including marketing, social media and media relations.
  • Write and edit internal communications, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Content, the Senior Writer, Videographer, Photographer and Design team to ensure that written and multimedia content is supported by strong photography, videography, audio and graphics. Create slide shows and other visual web features as assigned.
  • Assist the Senior Writer to write and produce programs, scripts and other communications for institutional events.
  • Assist the Director of Content and the Senior Writer in defining and implementing the magazine/web content strategy, priorities and metrics.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Content/Magazine Editor and the Senior Writer to strengthen the magazine, website and other digital and print channels in support of the Division of Communications’ strategic plan and Building on Strength.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement Communications and Director of Admission Marketing on content development that supports admission, advancement and reputational goals of the College.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Content and the Senior Writer to maintain factual accuracy and internal consistency of information, voice and editorial style across the College’s content channels.
  • Help to manage student workers and freelancers as needed to report on selected campus events and assist with development of content.
  • Write and edit content for selected digital projects, as assigned.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ experience writing for newspapers, magazines and/or the web. Demonstrated ability to produce outstanding written content that is positioned to serve defined strategic objectives. Proven reporting skills; ability to gather and synthesize information; strong work ethic and self-motivation; ability to work independently, meet deadlines and juggle multiple priorities. Must have excellent news judgment and ability to identify topics with potential for magazine and web content, media relations and reputation building and experience developing effective content for magazine, web and social media. Knowledge of AP Style along with experience working in higher education preferred. Must be able to collaborate closely and provide solution-driven, positive thinking in a team environment.
