 Nature of Work

Preventative and corrective maintenance of the water distribution system (DS) facilities and water treatment plant (WTP) including pump stations, tanks, chlorination stations, and SCADA. It requires some knowledge of the aforementioned systems components where some direct supervision may be required for specific duties and tasks.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for duties as assigned by the Pumping Systems Maintenance Supervisor (PSMS).
  • Assist in DS or WTP projects.
  • Assist in performing preventative & corrective maintenance & minor repairs on electrical, mechanical & SCADA equipment & related components at DS facilities or WTP. 
  • General labor includes flow meter / analyzer equipment calibrations, limited SCADA work (server updates, SQL Data Base editing or SCADA user assistance).
  • Act as Baseform liaison. Ensure correct data is being sent to a third party - daily.
  • Assist in monitoring distribution system operations via SCADA as directed.
  • General maintenance such as plumbing and basic electrical.
  • Emergency and On-Call Duty - Respond to callouts / emergencies on a 24 - hour basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to respond to emergencies within 45 minutes and maintain that as a condition of continued employment. 


KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma.
  • SCADA certifications not required but a plus.
  • LLE from the state of Tennessee or equivalent licensing/education a plus.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License. 
  • Hands on experience with electrical panels, breakers/fuses, motors, pumps, variable frequency drives, Programmable Logic Controllers, HMIs, and radio transmitters/receivers.
  • General knowledge of Rutherford County road and highway system.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards.
  • Familiar with TDEC standards. 

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Aptitude to learn DS facility locations and operational logic. 
  • Aptitude to learn WTP operational logic and understand component criticality.
  • Skills should include computers, power tools, and numerous small hand tools.
  • Machining skills (lathe and mill work) a plus. 
  • Skylift or Manlift certification (or must be able to achieve when training is available at CUD).
  • Must have initiative and be resourceful in problem solving. 
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have the ability to work courteously with the public and co-workers.
  • Work requires the ability to perform intermediate math to deal with systems of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement.
  • Work requires advanced reading skills for scientific or technical journals and abstracts.
  • Work requires intermediate writing skills with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: physical demands under which the job is performed:

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
  • Working at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Lifting 50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. 
  • Typically standing, walking, bending, crouching; stooping. 
  • Climbing ladders.
  • Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of expertise.
  • Need to distinguish between shades of color.
  • Work in potentially hazardous environments including but not limited to:
  • Loud machinery,
  • Chemicals, 
  • Electrical hazards, 
  • Confined spaces, 
  • Heights

WORKING CONDITIONS: normal or usual conditions where work is performed:

Work is primarily performed in a field setting with exposure to loud noise, outside elements, dust, dirt, grease, etc. Hazards: Work is frequently near moving mechanical parts. Possible exposure to irritating chemicals.
