We are looking for:
The Associate Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs, as well as troubleshooting and resolving maintenance issues as they arise. The maintenance technician will also be responsible for training junior maintenance technicians.
- Capable of using analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within the prescribed limitations
- Working knowledge of general maintenance equipment and tools
- Previous experience maintaining accurate parts inventory
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and take direction from others
- Possess rudimentary knowledge of equipment repair.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, equipment assembly drawings, tech manual and related policies and procedures
This position will be located onsite and will travel between Livonia, Macomb, and Flint

- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years' experience operating and/or maintaining heavy equipment (e.g., construction, farming equipment, bulldozer) required
- Capable of maintenance welding/cutting of metal using flux-cored arc weld (FCAW), shielded metal arc weld (SMAW), gas metal arc weld (GMAW), and oxygen acetylene torches required
- Basic computer skills including handling payment-based software required
- Chauffer's License with medical card required, CDL preferred
In this role, you will:
- Inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and longevity of machines
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner
- Read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications
- Maintains and repairs heavy mobile equipment
- Diagnose problems with equipment and determine the best course of action to take
- Plans and lays out work in accordance with applicable standards and codes
- Prepares and maintains documentation and reports, as required
- Perform regular safety checks on all equipment and keep accurate records of all maintenance performed on each machine
- Repair or replace defective parts on equipment as needed
- Provides estimates of time and material required; requisitions tools and supplies in accordance with established procedures
- Manage inventory of spare parts and order new parts as needed
- Recommends changes to improve efficiency and/or quality of mechanical operations, as appropriate
- Maintains a safe work environment through job planning and identification and correction of hazards and adherence to plant safety rules and procedures
This is a non-union position with NorthStar Clean Energy, the unregulated side of CMS Energy, and is not a position of employment with Consumers Energy.
