Cook/Line Server Position Overview:
The experienced Cook/Line Server is responsible for preparing and servings our guests. As part of this, the Cook/Line Server will help maintain our high-quality product by following our quality and safety standards. The Cook/Line Server will prepare food according to specifications by using proper portioning, approved recipes, and food prep logs/tools. This Cook/Line Server will be mostly responsible for weekly and daily prep, continuity of service, and contributing to the highest guest service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Cook/Line Server:
- Maintenance: Manage daily upkeep and organization of kitchen. The Cook/Line Server will begin their day at our Innovation Center (Troy, MI) each morning. Here, the Cook/Line Server will manage all smallwares that are utilized at the Henry Ford Café location. Washing smallwares and placing them back on the designated rack is vital for a productive and successful lunch service.
- Food Preparation: Facilitate and manage daily prep in the kitchen at our Innovation Center (Troy, MI) each morning. Work with the culinary team to ensure food is properly prepared, packaged and shipped. Gather and prepare garnishes for menu offering that day. Following daily production, Cook/Line Server will commute to Henry Ford to set-up and serve during lunch service.
- Service: Set-up hot and cold food lines in the best manner to ensure successful lunch service. Ensure correct serving utensils, pans, and packaging are being utilized. Follow all portioning standards to allow for consistency. Strive to exceed guest expectations. Carefully and artfully package each order. Provide knowledge around dish, allergens, etc. to guests.
- Quality: Ensure quality and completeness of food from start of production to end of service. Ensure quality standards are being met and timelines followed. Ensure timely and complete communication with interested parties to ensure quality standards are being met
- Development: Maintain awareness of new food trends, ways to display foods, team orientated
Qualifications
- 1 year of relevant work experience in the food industry required
- Large kitchen, banquet or off premise catering strongly preferred
- Serve Safe/Allergen Certified or willingness to obtain certification required
- Must be able and willing to work seasonal event driven schedule including nights, weekend and summer holidays
- Strong proficiency with electronic communication, Microsoft Office Suite, and related systems used in the industry
- Strongly organized, proven ability to prioritize, team orientated, and teachable.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work with all facets and levels of staff and management

Scheduled Shift for Cook/Line Servers:
- Work week: Monday – Friday, 10a-2p – Henry Ford Cancer Center
- Cook/Line Servers are expected to have flexible start times as early as 5am
- Flexible availability for catering and on premise events
- Overtime available and strongly encouraged
