Overview
The Medical Advisor collaborates across Cook business functions and business units, applying their clinical knowledge and expertise to support device risk assessment, regulatory submissions, product development, internal and external training, global reimbursement efforts, market research, and sales and marketing efforts.
Responsibilities
- The Medical Advisor displays a deep understanding of the medical device life cycle, the role of Medical Affairs and how it interfaces with functions within the Cook organization
- The Medical Advisor will develop and maintain a deep knowledge and expertise in their clinical area of responsibility, for both new and existing products, and the clinical procedures in which they are used.
- The Medical Advisor has a clinical understanding of the risks, benefits, patient selection, and treatment options for the appropriate disease groups.
- The Medical Advisor is responsible for being aware of scientific and clinical trends within their area, as well as having an understanding of the scientific evidence for their assigned portfolio
- The Medical Advisor independently completes tasks of high complexity, scope, and importance and completes them with very high quality.
- The Medical Advisor will provide direction and guidance to the Associate Medical Advisor for the completion of deliverables for Medical Affairs.
- The Medical Advisor provides clinical review of Cook documents that will be seen by internal and/or external customers, including Instructions for Use for Cook devices, marketing and promotional pieces, training and educational materials, and press releases.
- The Medical Advisor provides clinical experience and support to Regulatory Affairs, the Reimbursement function, Business Development. Product Research and Development, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Engineering and other internal groups as needed.
- Other General Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with:
- Cook’s Code of Conduct.
- Cook’s Quality System requirements.
- Company HR policies.
- Liaise with other Cook manufacturing facilities, and the global Medical Affairs functional team members
- Benchmark systems and processes against best industry practice and modify and develop accordingly to further improve operational efficiencies.
- Responsible for operating in accordance with the general internal quality systems and documentation.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with minimum 4 years of clinical experience with direct patient care preferred. Board certification is not required.
- Appropriate clinical knowledge and experience required, such as exposure to medical and surgical procedures and the use of medical devices in a clinical setting.
- 2-3 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
- Capable technical writing skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Interest and skilled at literature and web-based research.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Proficient in reading, writing and speaking the English language.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- High self-motivation.
- Willingness and availability to travel on company business.
