Job Title:         Media Fab Lab Instructor

Department:   Youth Empowerment Services (YES)

General Functions:

The Media Fab Lab instructor is a year- round position working with Middle School and High School youth. The Media Fab Lab instructor will provide direct support for participating students with a special focus on Fab Lab related technology and project-based instruction in a culturally appropriate framework. The Media Fab Lab instructor will provide individualized attention in one-on-one situations or in small groups. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist Schoolyard team with providing academic and technology support after-school, during the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Skill Building program, as well as in the Fabrication Lab. 
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge with the latest technology in order to share relevant information to students.
• Provide lessons that merge culture and technology by utilizing the creative programs used in the Fabrication Lab such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc. 
• Assess student needs through interviews and review of materials.
• Provide all students with a safe and appropriate learning environment.
• Develop, organize, promote and implement relevant activities for program youth, parents and families.
• Engage students in learning through homework, tutoring, and culturally-based activities.
• Support students in developing and accomplishing plans and goals.
• Maintain cooperative relationships and open communication with staff and students.
• Assess students’ progress by observing performance and recording relevant data.
• Assist with the selection of appropriate instructional materials.
• Assist with the recruitment of new students, and public relations efforts for the program. 
• Provide oversight and guidance for youth during all off-site field trips/cultural camps, and make decisions related to the safety and well-being of all youth during all off- site excursions.
• Transport students to class sites, field trips, cultural camps, or other locations within the state of Alaska.
• Provide support to students, parents, and/or volunteers.
• Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain accurate, current, and complete records of participants performance, attendance, and other pertinent information. 
• Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Job Specifications:

• Excellent interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work with diverse groups of people with varying needs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in core concepts of technology.
• Demonstrated understanding and  use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, as well as Smart Sheets, Google Docs, etc.
• Excellent computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing and design and publishing programs.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lift and/or move 30 pounds regularly

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Computer Science, Informational Technology and/or a related field; or combination of year for year education and experience in related field may be substituted for degree requirement.
• Two years teaching or providing instruction in technology or relevant field.
• Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.
