Job Summary:

Manages activities related to laboratory operations, training and employees, and assists the Branch/Laboratory Manager with operational tasks by performing the following duties.

You Will:

  • Maintains demonstrated proficiency with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complies with all regulatory, quality assurance, quality control, standard operating, and safety procedures.
  • Oversees and coordinates all laboratory activities at the branch, ensuring that operations are compliant with company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Trains and re-trains all subordinate employees; keeps staff training documents (folders) up-to-date.
  • Acts as a point-of contact and as a liaison between HQ, laboratory and office staff in the absence of Branch Manager.
  • Assists with operational projects related laboratory and branch functions.
  • Semen Specimen Processing
  • Performs complete qualitative and quantitative sperm evaluation.
  • Performs ICI and IUI processing by employing appropriate means of each particular specimen.
  • Performs post-thaw analysis.
  • Assesses sperm morphology using WHO criteria.
  • Blood/Urine Specimen Procurement/Processing
  • Performs phlebotomy (if qualified).
  • Processes and prepares blood and urine specimens for transport to the reference laboratory.
  • Reviews reference lab testing and follows up on positive results or discrepancies.
  • Performs routine cryogenic procedures including vial transfers; daily quality controls/ tank checks.
  • Performs vial QC by verifying vial labels and number/type of vials.
  • Reviews and signs off on monthly QC records; ensures that routine maintenance of laboratory equipment is performed at defined intervals; initiates problem logs for any equipment or process issues; takes corrective action as needed.
  • Reviews and verifies correctness workload reports on SharePoint; ensures updates in timely manner.
  • Reviews and signs off on potential donor specimen evaluations.
  • Reviews of donor /client specimen processing data (worksheets and manifests) and Navision worksheet entries prior to transfer/posting activities.
  • Assists the Branch Manager in conducting lab meetings on a regular basis.
  • Participates in the review of standard operating procedures; contributes to standard operating procedure modifications.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises all laboratory staff. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing laboratory work; appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining , and training employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; assisting the Branch Manager with interviewing and hiring process. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science and three years of related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to speak and write English; communicate effectively and professionally with clients and external contacts; read and interpret documents, such as procedure manuals; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Phlebotomy certificate desirable but not required.
  • Excellent customer service skills; strong attention to details; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; high level of interpersonal skills to interact with peers and management; excellent organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; and ability to travel.
  • Phase-contrast microscopy skills; knowledge of laboratory and medical terminology; training in the handling of liquid nitrogen
