PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct district programs in PK-12 Literacy to provide leadership and vision for teaching and learning. Collaborate with district staff and external professionals to analyze and improve existing educational opportunities for learners and district staff in literacy. Assist in coordination of specific functions of the district , work as a team member with district curriculum staff, and create and support systems of transformation that further the learning organization. Provide continued support and training of required Reading Academies through the state and monitoring completion rates of staff in partnership with human resources.

Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Language Arts
Master’s Degree in Reading, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field
GT and ESL Supplemental Certification Preferred
Campus Admininistration or Campus Leadership Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to evaluate and direct district wide programs for improvement in learner performance
Knowledge of curriculum development including how to write, align, and implement a sound curriculum
Knowledge of Texas Reading Academies and specific requirements for educators and staff
Ability to analyze data and act on the data
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in PK-12 English Language Arts and PK-5 SLAR TEKS
Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and instructional materials for English Language Arts
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Manage budget aligned with vision and goals
Understanding of backwards design, constructivism, and learner driven inquiry
Understanding of MTSS and needed supports for administrators and educators
EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five years teaching experience in a related field
Minimum of three years experience in an instructional leadership role

Instructional Strategies
Lead the curriculum development, implementation, review, evaluation, and continuous improvement process for the district English Language Arts
Develop and implement a program plan for continuous improvement
Interpret and implement local, state, and national policies which impact English Language Arts teaching and learning
Assist in the recruiting and interviewing of prospective educators
Conduct and document classroom visits to provide feedback, reflection, support, and program evaluation and support learning walks across the district
Build capacity with educators and admininstrators as co-leaders of the instructional program
Lead materials adoption committees and make committee recommendations to the Board of Trustees
Monitor district resources and maintain an up to date list of resources provided by the district to be used in content instruction
Use digital technologies effectively to communicate and model technology use in learning
Student Growth and Development
Support campus admininstrators as instructional leaders in the design and implementation of campus plans to improve learner performance in English Language Arts and SLAR as well as vertical alignment across the district
Lead the development of instructional design that provides relevant experiences to engage learners and encourage risk-taking, flexibility, and creativity
Assist educators and administrators in their understanding of the English Language Arts TEKS and SLAR to assist educators in analyzing, diagnosing, and improving learner performance in English Language Arts
Design and deliver professional learning to promote effective instruction to ensure successful program implementation in the classroom
Support educators through professional learning related to developing and using learner-centered authentic formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and meet the needs of all learners
Support administrators and educators in the design of classroom systems for maximization of instructional minutes
Classroom Management and Organization
Ensures Support in classroom management to optimize the teaching learning process
Communication
Articulate English Language Arts and SLAR Program Plan and curriculum to educators, administrators, and parents
Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, planning structure, and implementation pedagogy
Work closely with educators and administrators in creating an open, cooperative atmosphere for effective communication and feedback
Partner with other Curriculum team members and district departments for overall success and learner growth in literacy
