This role involves extensive research, organization, and attention to detail to ensure that each item up for auction is accurately and comprehensively described. Catalog Specialists are responsible for preparing, researching, cataloging, and photography of objects for auction.
Catalog Creation:
Research and gather information on items slated for auction, including their history, provenance, and condition.
Collaborate with auction experts, appraisers, and consignors to obtain accurate item details.
Write engaging, informative, and concise descriptions for each item in the auction catalog.
Photography:
Coordinate and/or complete the photography and imaging of auction items.
Ensure high-quality images are captured to showcase items effectively.
Data Management:
Maintain a comprehensive database of all auction items, their descriptions, and visual assets.
Ensure data accuracy, including item dimensions, provenance, artist information, and estimated values.
Proofreading and Editing:
Review and edit catalog descriptions for accuracy, consistency, and grammar.
Customer Service:
Assist potential buyers and sellers with inquiries regarding cataloged items.
Address any issues related to catalog information during pre-auction previews.
