We are currently seeking a Director of Global Distribution and Inventory to join our growing organization.


General Position Summary

The Director of Global Distribution and Inventory is responsible for the planning and coordination of enterprise-wide distribution and outbound logistics management by creating strategic plans for finished goods warehousing, Shipping / Receiving, Safety, Inventory analysis and order execution and monitoring.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive global distribution and inventory strategies. Understand regional and market differences and needs based on specific complexities. Translate business needs and priorities into strategies and programs that contribute to driving growth and customer service while reducing costs.
  • Management of Global warehouses and distribution centers to achievement of goals for operational metrics, including shipping time, order fill rate, inventory turns, inventory location, and count accuracy. Ensure that the annual objectives for cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness are achieved.
  • Develop processes for worldwide shipping of products that meet all regulatory and legal requirements relative to duties, fees, and controls. Scope includes shipment of purchased components from suppliers, shipments between factories, and shipments to domestic and international distributors.
  • Develop and manage strong management team and oversee: training and coaching, evaluation of all employees necessary to meet or exceed goals, and development of the work atmosphere. Ensure that safety, security, productivity, and satisfaction of employee align with company objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for improving inventory turns in distribution centers.
  • Manage warehouse cycle count program and assure location and count accuracy meets our corporate requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure inventory audits both internal and external meet or exceed targets.
  • Develop supplier relationships that minimize cost and shipping time of transporting goods while maintaining quality expectations.
  • Monitor technology available for the warehouse and champion implementation of appropriate technology that improves our execution while meeting corporate ROI requirements.
  • Participate in annual plan development including objectives, strategies, and tactical plans.
  • Actively measure quality and strive for continuous improvement. Continually seek ways to improve the overall distribution process and identify best practices.
  • Apply a total systems approach to designing and managing the entire flow of information, materials, and services through warehouses to the customer.
  • Support the smooth flow of product through our supply chain and participate as an active member of that team.
  • Work in a team environment between the functions of Operations, Customer Service, Finance, and other departments, and interact regularly with senior management regarding goals and accomplishments.
  • Maintain dashboard reporting and business review data for both inventory and distribution operations.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Must be forward thinker and able to implement plans for the management of logistics and the integration of the overall distribution strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills; credible with internal stakeholders and external audiences; comfortable meeting with/presenting to executives and senior management.
  • Experienced change agent possessing the strategic, analytical, and teamwork skills needed to drive major commercial decisions across a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Advanced database and spreadsheet management skills
  • Exceptional analytical, problem identification, and problem solving skills
  • Experience working as part of leadership team, with a keen understanding of business strategy, business process and how global distribution aligns to overall business priorities is required
  • Experience managing outside vendors and consultants, with strong negotiation skills required
  • Ability to maintain a demanding schedule in a dynamic work environment
  • Experience in cross functional planning methodologies and process management, at a leadership level
  • Ability to plan, effectively communicate plans, and work cross-functionally within the Corporate operations.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with design and layout of distribution facilities and best-in-class operations
  • Knowledge of LEAN operating principles
  • Extensive knowledge of global duty and tariffs.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Business Management, or a related field such as Logistics, or Supply Chain required. Evidence of ongoing professional development such as APICS or similar certifications, highly desirable.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in distribution/management required.
  • Minimum 4 years experience as a senior manager or similar in an Operations and planning organization; and a track record that demonstrates positions of increasing responsibility and accomplishment as shown in the sample background profile shown above.
  • Demonstrated competency with international and domestic carriers and contract negotiations.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems required, with ability to manage complex logistical movements
  • Demonstrated success with domestic and international transportation and distribution activities
  • Familiarity with U.S. and international customs rules and regulations
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, domestic and international
  • Experience working in a support environment versed in multi facets of a support organization
  • Experience building an operation from the ground up is critical. Growth company experience is critical.
  • Expert competency in Microsoft Office suite, primarily Word and Excel.
  • Local candidates preferred
