This is a unique opportunity for a mechanical/manufacturing engineer in the area of advanced optical materials and products.
The position requires a self-motivated individual with precision machining experience to oversee and assist in the development and manufacture of low volume, high precision glass optics. T
he successful candidate must have a professional work ethic, strong hands-on design and machining skills, and a desire to work in a small team environment.
Scope of Position:
- Provide process and technical support for AWJ / CNC machining manufacturing operations for the purpose of supporting production.
- Generate 2D and 3D models with Mastercam from customer and local drawings
- Generate 5 Axis Operations and Post Toolpaths with Mastercam
- Develop Set Up Strategies for Machining Operations
- Develop and support standard operating procedures, documentation, & audits for manufacturing operations processes that will comply with ISO-based practices.
- Develop Experimental Plans/Reports as required to support process improvement and product development.
- Continually drive for quality/efficiency improvements in production operations.
- Troubleshoot quality issues to determine root cause and implement solutions.
- Monitoring and maintaining supplies and equipment; communicating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers; overseeing maintenance needs and equipment repair.
- Support quotes of AWJ / CNC machining operations to customers
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Off-shift position with potential for rotational work.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
- Strong computer skills; Proficiency in SolidWorks, CAM, and g-code programming.
- Hands-on experience setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment.
- A teamwork mindset - ability to work/interact with a variety of personnel and backgrounds
- Good judgment - ability to prioritize properly, work independently and efficiently, and to multitask in a fast-paced team environment
- Thoroughness in executing assigned tasks; attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Excellent observation and data recording skills with understanding of equipment, testing, and experimental procedures.
- Good interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
Highly Desirable:
- Ability to develop, load, and run CNC programs to perform grinding operations
- CNC Programming with Mastercam X9
- Operational knowledge of CNC finishing and AWJ processes
- Experience in optical fabrication or ceramics machining.
Education:
- 4-year Engineering Degree
Experience:
- 0-3 years engineering experience
Travel:
- We anticipate less than 10% travel for this role
