Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose:
As a member of a global drafting department: manage the creation, revision, and storage of electronic drawing files (2D and 3D) for custom designed process equipment located in several Corning manufacturing locations – domestic and international. Ensure that all new drawings and revisions are technically accurate, follow existing drafting standards and accepted practices within the industry, and that all department processes are adhered to.
Support process equipment deployments by creating quote/build packages and assist in resolving drawing issues during fabrication, assembly, and installation activities. Assist engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel in locating relevant process equipment drawings within the drawing database.
Supervise/lead a small team of contingent drafting/CAD employees on drafting assignments. May be asked to provide training to other drafting/CAD technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete process equipment drawing packages and configuration lists. Specify components, detail parts, and create process equipment assemblies and layouts.
- Review drawing packages for standards compliance and generate redlines where applicable.
- Manage drawing revision and release processes within an electronic PDM system.
- Develop technical knowledge of processes and/or equipment platforms.
- Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality.
- Function as a team leader on focused projects.
- Create project plans that identify resources, tasks, costs, and accurate timelines.
- Train and coach new drafting/CAD technicians on standards, processes, and procedures.
- Troubleshoot process issues and oversee implementation of corrective actions.
- May be asked to participate in developing new standards, policies, or procedures to improve current processes.

Experiences/Education:
- Required:
- Associates Degree in technical field or strong drafting background and experience
- Strong mechanical or electrical aptitude
- 5 years of experience in drafting/CAD field
- Basic Project Management skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, or Autodesk Vault Professional software
- Desired:
- 3 years of engineering change process experience
- Professional drafting certificate
- Professional certification in Autodesk Inventor software
