Role Purpose:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager will help drive continuous improvement in overall EH&S performance while promoting an interdependent organizational culture. The intent of this role is to lead and effectively integrate EH&S processes/programs into the overall plant strategy while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state local, and corporate safety laws and standards.
This role requires working within a complex manufacturing structure at a plant level and aligning with Corporate requirements to ensure safety standards are maintained. The work is multi-dimensional in the areas of regional support and corporate regulations and compliance.
Required Skills:
- BS (MS preferred) – occupational health/safety, environmental engineering, safety or related subject or Industrial Engineering considered with demonstrated manufacturing experience in Safety Engineering
- Demonstrated manufacturing experiences in developing and deploying Safety Strategy and associated tactical plans to deliver targeted results.
- Knowledge of OSHA/EPA and other relevant regulations and standards
- Experience with database management
- Excellent problem-solving skills (DMAIC, DESGN)
- Experience integrating aspects of EH&S management into the overall operation of the plant
- Ability to handle time and resources effectively to meet deadlines
- Information Utilization and ability to use electronic databases
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective management of competing priorities based on risk
- Demonstrated manufacturing experiences in developing and deploying Safety Strategy and associated tactical plans to deliver targeted results.
Desired Skills:
- Experience within a Safety Management Systems approach.
- Demonstrated manufacturing experience on a regional or multiple plant environment and cultures.
- Knowledge and experience in Safety Regulatory and Legal requirements and industry direction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; both organization and presentation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide EHS leadership, expertise, and practical support for Safety Excellence – to ensure we have a rigorous safety program that protects the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors at all times.
- Maintain close liaison with Corporate Safety Management Services and Corporate Environmental Control.
- Facilitate the development and maintenance of facility emergency response plans and ensure that all affected employees receive training as needed.
- Support and maintain comprehensive assessment of manufacturing capability for Safety– determine current performance and capability.
- Support and maintain the Safety Strategy that drives and delivers an improvement roadmap and facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of required safety, health and environmental programs and processes.
- Contribute to the development of consistent Safety Standard for all manufacturing locations that that aligns with Corning Incorporated that incorporates local codes and regulations, for all people – Corning employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Contribute toward the driving of the Safety Governance process to ensure Safety Standards, North America Program initiatives and metrics are being implemented, maintained and sustained.
- Work with internal and external organizations to coordinate industrial hygiene, safety, health and environmental audits of the facility.
- Develop, manage and drive Safety Governance to ensure Safety Standards, Global Program initiatives and Global metrics are being implemented, maintained, improved and sustained.
- Develop, coordinate and deploy Safety Improvement training that appropriately targets all levels of the organization – Business Leadership, Manufacturing Leadership and all aspects of Manufacturing Operations/Engineering and Functional Groups.
- Lead and support an EHS team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure the plant is aligned with federal OSHA guidelines, Corporate safety strategy and other regulatory environmental requirements. Provide guidance and expertise in conducting safety, health and environmental risk assessments for new or existing processes or equipment. Support the introduction of new products and processes into the facility.
- Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise for the development of a world class safety culture within the facility.
