Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
This position requires technical skills related to testing electrical properties of glass, ceramic, or polymer materials. The ideal candidate not only should be familiar with laboratory instruments such as impedance analyzer, network analyzer, electrometer, power amplifier, and oscilloscope, but also has good understanding of physical property of solid materials. The individual will provide technical support in measurements, data analysis, and instrument maintenance. The candidate is also expected to design new experiment to improve existing measurement capabilities. For example, the candidate can add automation to increase throughput, or modify testing system to improve measurement accuracy. The candidate will provide regular updates to senior scientists, and occasionally present results at team meetings.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Design and perform measurements for material’s electrical properties such as resistivity, permittivity, dielectric strength.
- Provide data analysis and present results to project team.
- Design and develop new experiment to improve measurement capabilities.
- Perform instrument calibration and maintenance as needed.
- Document measurement results, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reports.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/ week
Education and Experience:
Majoring in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or similar degree.
Minimum: Completed Junior year in college.
Preferred: Currently enrolled in graduate school.
Required Skills:
- Experience with electronic instrumentations such as electrometer, network analyzer, impedance analyzer, oscilloscope, static field meter.
- Experience in electrical property characterization of amorphous or crystalline materials.
- Working knowledge on electrical circuit and passive components.
- Experience with data acquisition program such as LabView.
- Communicate effectively to the lab team about experimental setup, and data analysis
- Technical excellence – self-motivated/ driven and result oriented
- Familiar with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Desired Skills:
- Experience with wafer level RF property characterization. Measurement of S-parameters of microstrip line or coplanar waveguide.
- Experience with electrochemistry related to battery materials or corrosion study. Apply equivalent circuit model for impedance data analysis.
- Experience with surface electrostatics, triboelectrification.
Soft Skills:
- Time management and multitasking.
- Comfortable with ambiguity.
- Hands-on approach to problem solving.
- Self-starter, demonstrated ability to initiate technical work.
- Team skills and customer support orientation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
