Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of this Position:


For top revenue product lines in OCS, work with functional leaders to define the focus areas for the long term transformational cost reduction strategy.

Guide the planning, decisions, and actions required to establish a transformational cost reduction portfolio to support meeting the OCS division long term transformational cost reduction targets. Deliverables:

Prioritized list of focus areas within Global Product Families

Prioritized portfolio of transformational cost reduction projects (XCR) approved by Product Teams and launched into the respective RDEM (R&D, OCS Technology, OCS Division Engineering or Manufacturing) project portfolios.

Consistent progress communication to OCS Leadership on program status, cost reduction value, capital requirements, resource needs and key decisions to be made. Responsibilities:

Manage program team members through the epsilon and systematic innovation process, from focus area selection through project launch as depicted in the flow chart below.

Manage the project SME team, Systematic Innovation facilitators and Engineering Cost Modelers through cost modeling to gain deep understanding of primary cost drivers.

Manage project SME team and Systematic Innovation facilitators through Functional Modeling and TRIZ preparation work.

Organize cross-organizational brainstorming events to produce transformational cost reduction ideas.

Champion the thorough use of the Systematic Innovation process.

Facilitate the project SME team through filtering and refining exercises to convert ideas from the brainstorming events into project concepts.

Facilitate the project SME team and cost modelers to develop cost reduction estimates for the projects and then prioritize concepts into a portfolio.

Ensure the product and process design changes can deliver on Cost, Quality, Delivery and Safety requirements in a manufacturing location

Develop and deliver program status presentations for various OCS leadership teams for both awareness and alignment.

Drive program portfolio approval with appropriate OCS decision makers such as Plant staffs, Product Teams and other executive leaders.

Support the project through formal project launch on the appropriate RDEM portfolio


Skills:


Ability to quickly learn deep technical details about existing products and processes

Ability to understand and guide product costing (ABP-ECM or SAP) and the systematic innovation (SI) process

Ability to project manage a technical, cross-functional, and cross-site team through the process

Strong organization and project management fundamentals

Ability to drive teams to make decisions when not all the information is available

Strong executive communication and influence skills Required leadership skills

Ability to work with ambiguity, ability to make, recognize, and manage assumptions.

Ability to develop and communicate a strategic view and integrate multiple sources of input.

High credibility in the organization with strong team leadership and influence skills.

Demonstrated ability to influence plant/program priority and resource alignment to enable key deliverables.

Ability to learn and work cross-functionally to manage tradeoffs among commercial, technical, engineering, and operational assumptions and uncertainty.

Ability to recognize and be effective across culture shifts in the innovation life cycle, including flexibility and high learning in early stage to building stronger discipline in later stages.

Strong communication skills, to share manufacturing readiness to steering teams and project team members.

Demonstrate extreme ownership: ability to work past defining challenges and obstacles and lead the team to determine a path and overcome them.


Travel requirements: Initial travel to evaluate existing manufacturing operations is required. Occasional travel required afterwards for team events, primarily in the US, Mexico, or Poland.
