What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant VFX Editor position at Cosa Vfx Inc?

CoSA VFX has a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic professional to take on the role of Assistant VFX Editor. This position is remotely based from our BC studio, is part of the production department with a direct report to the Editor and is ultimately overseen by the Head of Production.
 
This role supports the CoSA VFX studio by ingesting, incorporating and updating incoming media, performing quality control of the footage as well as assuring the deliverables meet client-specified delivery criteria and are received in a timely fashion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain sequence edits and inserting visual effects shots into the timeline
  • Ensure F-track is maintained with current shot counts, lineup and any retime instructions
  • Confirm published shots conform to the current edit and perform QC checks
  • Set up QC projects in Nuke Studio
  • Prepare sequence edits and special reels for internal and client approval when required
  • Create daily playlists and operate the screening room system for dailies
  • Perform shot retimes to match supplied editorial reference when required
  • Ingest client files and prepare client deliveries via digital file transfer programs (ex: Aspera, Signiant Media Shuttle) and physical hard drives with tight security requirements
  • Prepare and execute digital file transfers between in-house studios, vendors and other parties
  • Communicate accurately and in a timely manner the transfer of the data to the appropriate departments
  • Ensure all correspondence is up to date and responded to in an acceptable time frame
  • Assist in archiving studio data
  • Monitor the render farm as needed and as directed by the Render Wrangler.
  • Planning and implementing protocols and workflows to ensure proper preparation for client deliveries and security audits.
  • Assisting in some production needs, such as creating and publishing shots and updating log databases.
  • Execute all duties within the required security specification

 
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 1 years of editing experience within the film and television industry
  • An eye for detail and thorough understanding of techniques, file formats, color-space, software and technology relating to the live action visual effects
  • Knowledge of Premiere, Adobe Suite, Avid and Da Vinci.
  • Working knowledge of Nuke Studio, Shotgun/F-Track, After Effects a major asset
  • Ability to convert between key numbers, timecodes and frames
  • Comfortable working in both Mac and Windows OS
  • Clear understanding of Avid media composer, NukeStudio, HieroPlayer, Adobe Premiere
  • Proficient computer skills; emphasis on Production Tracking Software (Shotgun, F-Track) and Asset Management, Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Office, and standard PC applications.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle a fast paced, occasionally high-pressure environment
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings or nights when production schedules require.
